i've just been checking a local site to see about advertising some items: a viv, bogwood etc. while doing so i spotted someone selling a pregnant guinea pig, babies pigs and loads of different rabbits. i am really temtped to ask about the pregnant pig but wanted to see what peolpe thought about me doing this. i know i shouldn't encourage the sellers but i am really concerned about her ending up in the wrong hands. i am worried about the others but cannot possibly help all of them. what do you think i should do?

yeah, i think contacting the seller would be the right thing to do. You have to make sure that what is selling is healthy AND is going to the right home. May suggest to her having the buys take a little quiz or information sheet to see how much they know about guinea pigs? inbreeding

I think i have read on here before that it is illegal to sell pregnant animals, i woould phone a local rescue and ask about what you have seen advertised.

Please phone a rescue near you and get advice, i would not take or buy any yourself, you could phone the RSPCA and ask about what they are doing and if it is legal. The preganant pig may need vet help during birth and this could be very expensive, could you afford the treatment if she needed it?. I know you want to help but get some advice first.

i took a pregnant one in who gave birth in march of this year. she had a prolapse 13 days after the birth and needed surgery. i do have savings that covers my vets bills - i have lots of animals and spend a lot of time at the vets!
i'm trying to get my head around the fact that if i took her i would be helping this person to sell them. which i really do not want but i am very concerned. the journey itself from this place to mine is bad enough with her being pregnant but she could end up anywhere. that's if they even still have her of course

That's very good of you to have taken on that guinea pig and give her the treatment. If you have the means to help this pig then maybe you could help, but i would not give them money for it as this would encourage them to do it again and i think they should be reported if you are able to prove whatr they are doing is illegal.

i think i may give rspca a call. it will be the walsall branch that will cover the area where they are. oh i wish i didn't care so much - it really is hard to walk away from these things but if i call them hopefully they will do something.

I think that is the best thing to do, let us know how it goes

i've just rung the bloke who has them the pregnant sow's babies are 6 weeks old -still living with them. she is 5 weeks pregnant again. and they are living with about 20 rabbits. there are about 23 pigs! they all live together. he said they love each other! him and his mate breed them. i'm going down there tonight at 7pm and i'm getting the pregnant one at least out of there. but i am definitely ringing the rspca. i cannot believe some people they make me so mad. i have got to keep calm when i go and i'll try to get some picturesmalletheadmalletheadmallethead

oh by the way the sow is a black and white 'fuzzy' pig - i presume he means a rex or teddy but we'll see

Take a camera. That way you can have evidence of what you see. It sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Ringing the RSPCA is a good way to go but don't pay for any animal, it just encourages them to keep breeding.

Let us know what happens.

Yes i second that, get photographs, i just hope the RSPCA do something! Poor babies :(

my daughters going to take her phone and pretend she just wants to take photos because she likes them. i cannot go until 7pm as they are going to fetch some ferrets to start breeding! i will let you all know when i get back

Oh jeez...grrrr
I would get sooo angry and that is not the answer I know rolleyes
Maybe give this bloke some basic bog standard advice about separating boys/girls etc. Who knows how many of these poor things could be pregnant now :...and they're about to 'start again' with ferrets :laluot_32:
Words fail me at times and tbh, I fear the worst for these poor innocent piggies/buns especially with them having ferrets...oh god :o
Whereabouts are these Sally ?

Please try to get mobile/landline phone number of the owner. A lot of sites have rules against selling pregnant animals so it may get pulled.

update

i've just got back from this house and managed to get 4 pigs off him. i got the pregnant sow, her two 6 week old babies and a boar that might be the dad of the unborn babies. unfortunately i had to pay him £10 for the pregnant sow but he gave me the others for free. he even asked if i wanted some baby rabbits for £3 each! i never managed to get any photos as he wouldn't let us go down the garden to where the animals are kept. he was very open about telling me that the pigs live with the rabbits and they all get on well and love each other! the boar that he gave me is fully grown by the looks of it, he wanders around with the quails and jack russells. he seems healthy enough at first sight. the 2 babies also seem healthy but the pregnant sow is obviously in a back to back pregnancy and is very quiet. she is simply lying in the cage in my daughters room eating grass at the moment. she has terrible feet though. i will try to photograph them but i don't want to disturb her at the moment. i'm not sure if it could be bumble foot but it is on all 4 feet. i have seperated the boar and he is on his own in a cage at present. in the morning i will sex the babies - at first quick look they both look like sows which means they could both be pregnant. they are 6 weeks old and have been living with the boars. he feeds them on carrots, tomatoes and dandelions. he bought them to me in a bucket! when he lifted the pregnant sow out to put in my carrier box he picked her up by her head and put her in upside down - on her back! i don't know how i kept calm and polite with him. i am ringing the rspca tomorrow but not sure if they will help. he told me he takes three rabbits to a petshop in bloxwich and swaps them for rabbit food. he also said he was open to any swaps - whatever he may mean by that. i did think of offering him a bale of hay to see how many more pigs i could get out of there and they might even get some of it to eat that way.

Thank goodness you managed to get the pregnant sow out of there (and the other 3). They're all gorgeous! I don't know how people can treat animals like that and not bother to think about their well being. If Penny wasn't pregnant I'd be tempted to go get some out of there, but I think I am going to have my hands full soon. I feel so helpless not being able to go get some of them. Hopefully the RSPCA will be able to sort something out.

Oh poor dears, people need to learn that rabbits and guinea pigs living together is in the past! Poor mummy piggy, they're all beautiful. Shame you had to exchange money but least they safe.

Just catching up on this, fair play to you for taking what you could, I wish I could do things like that but just don't have the money or resources.
Now you have his address etc can any more be done? to stop it continuing?

Hope all piggies are ok and healthy, how you kept calm I'll never know! I was seething just reading it all!
Let us know how they get on, again, well done :)

well done for the ones you have got, they look quite healthy!. The trouble is the more you take off him the more space and means he has to breed more. Have you phoned the RSPCA to voice your concerns as he needs stopping. I do understand why you have done what you have done.

my oh is not happy with me but i had to do something. i'm sure he'll get over itrolleyes. if the 2 babies turn out to be 2 girls i have a very good home lined up for them. they are adorable but i better not push my luck with my oh by trying to keep all of them. i will need to re-home the boar so if anyone needs a friend for their boar please get in touch. hopefully the unborn babies will be fine so they will more than likely needs homes too but i am going to see if the pregnant sow will be a friend for my molly whose own sister died a couple of weeks ago (once she's had the babies etc)
if anyone has any ideas on getting this man stopped other than the rspca i would appreciate hearing from you.

Poor things. I'd have done the same too! Phone RSPCA tomorrow and keep calling them until you know they *** made a visit and you have heard feedback. Don't feel like your hassling them. I once had to make several complaints until they sent someone round so keep at them.
Piggies are lovely and here now going to live a happy heathy lives x

Poor things...I don't think there's much you can do apart from the RSPCA, if he's not letting anyone see the animals then they're the only people who can force him.

It might be worth hanging onto the boar until you know the sex if the babies she's pregnant with, you might be able to pair him up with a baby boar then.
