I've left various posts over the years about my beloved boar sam.
Recently his last bottom front tooth came out and now he has abscess growing. His mouth looks red and the anti biotics arent really helping. He is going back to the vet but the last time he was operated on he nearly never came round. His energy levels are low and hes struggling to eat, I'm handing feeding as well as feeding him pellets. He has been sick on and off for years now and its taking its toll. I dont know what to do now, i will persevere with the medication, I'm not giving up! I'm seeing the effects on him now and as guilty as i feel i sometimes think i would be easier to let him go (the idea makes me feel sick!) I'm spoiling him but his weight isnt going up, I'm stumped. I've thought about this so much my heads spinning. Any advice would be very welcome :(

Can you get him to Vedra at CCT outside Huntingdon (off A1)?

I understand you feel a bit stuck and I'm so sorry your poor little piggies had a lot of health issues over his lifetime. The real question you need to ask yourself is, is your boy enjoying life. If he is dealing with the treatment/meds/aneasthetic ok and still quite full of life then i would perservre, maybe try seeing a specialist for piggies or another vet etc, try a different antibiotic or a few different ones? If he truely isnt enjoying life then you really need to ask yourself is it fair on him. I know how hard it is to let go of ones you care about so much but sometimes its just so much nicer for them and in the end they will suffer less. I'm not suggesting you let him go but I'm just trying to give you both sides of the story. You are the only one who knows him best and i know you care about him so much. Its a hard decision to make and unfortunatly only you can make it.
Sorry

I agree with Abi_nurse. For me, it is all down to the quality of life. If you can, take a step back and try to look at the situation as a whole with an unbiased view (very difficult, I know). You know your pets. If it is time, deep down you'll know that it is the right thing to do.

Sending you lots of hugs x
