I have two male guinea pigs (about 2 years old) and they were separated due to bad fighting. They used to have a 2x5 C and C cage but since separating them, I've had to use extra grids to split the cage in the middle and now both guinea pigs only have about 2 x 2.5 grids of space each. I want to give them more living space but I don't really have enough space in my house to extend the cage further. Should I give my pigs a second level each? Or does anyone have any creative solutions for problems like this? If I do extend the cage however I will need more fleece and coroplast, can I just buy a fleece blanket or do I need to order a proper one made for guinea pigs online? (I have spare grids btw)

A cheap PVC shower curtain can make a good base for an extra C&C, cost around £5 you can cut it down to any size you want. Fleece can be bought by the metre x 160 cm wide (5ft) on eBay and Internet fabric sites at around £7-8 per metre and is fine provided you put a towel, newspaper or puppy pads down underneath to soak up the pee, you don’t need to pay for expensive cage liners tbh
Good luck x

Welcome to the forum

A 2x2.5 cage each is too small so you do need to be able to extend their cages out on ground level. Even making each cage to be a 2x3, which if ive calculated properly to sq ft just about the minimum welfare cage size requirement, would be of benefit to them. A 2x4 each would be better, but it doesn’t sound like you can get to that.
Piggies are ground roaming creatures so adding a second level does not count towards the cage size. Therefore, their cages still need to be big enough on ground level, even if you do add a second level

I only use fleece bedding for part of the year so I don’t have proper liners. I just use a normal fleece blanket laid on top of puppy pads. They live in my shed, but when they have to come indoors due to weather conditions, I use a sheet of plastic on the floor (then the puppy pads and fleece) (i dont use coroplast)
