My darling girl fudge is 8 and has severely complex health issues. One of her vets has recently went on maternity leave for a year but luckily she has 2... That's until the second one just told me she's moving down south and I'm sort of in a panic! I won't have a piggy savvy vet for fudge which is a disaster.. she relies so heavily on an experienced vet and close monitoring and adjustment to meds. If it wasn't for these two ladies fudge simply wouldn't be alive now.

If anyone can vouch for a vet please let me know. I'm going to need to speak to some on the phone and explain my situation to see if they can help.

I'm currently stressed to the max! :-(

I'm so sorry @Adelle. Is it worth asking your vets who they are going to replace her with and their experience?
I was very stressed when my last (very well known) vet left as at the time I had a very poorly piggy and was regularly at the vets. But her replacement (although younger) has proved to be absolutely fantastic.

I would ask the vet outright if they have any recommendations of experienced vets in the area. As they know Fudge's needs so well perhaps they won't mind giving another vets details

I will be but sadly can't afford to hang about incase they aren't piggy savvy as I can't be in a situation where I don't have anywhere to turn incase fudge has another blip. Managing heart/bladder/ arthritis medications in an 8 year old guinea pig whilst taking her heart and kidneys into consideration isnt easy :-(

I will be thank you. I'm in a bit of a flap tbh!

Sending lots of calming vibes and really hope that you find a great vet very soon.

This may not be relevant where you are based @Adelle but when we had a problem with our rabbit recently, it became apparent that our regular piggie vet was out of her depth.
She refered us to a specialist, and it turns out that the very we saw actually works as the vet for the local children's zoo (in addition to her 2 days a week at the practice where we saw her). The children's zoo has a large selection of rabbits and guinea pigs, os she was pretty experienced with them. We were impressed with her knowledge and confidence with rabbits and will use her from now on for the piggies as well.
Do you have any zoos-farms in the area that have a 'petting area' with piggies?
If so I would call and ask what vet they use.
Where we live it is quite rural, so there isn't a lot of call for specialist guinea pig vets, so she does 1 day a week at the zoo, and then splits her time between 3 other veterinary practices, but now I have her details I would be prepared to travel to whatever practice she was at in an emergency.
Fingers crossed that you might be able to find someone similar for Miss Fudge.

nightmare Adelle, would recomend asking on several of the Facebook Piggy groups out there. I will put the feelers out too x
