Here goes, so the girls were squeaking when peeing and were treated I just had Wilma out and was treated to that familiar sound. Yes, you know it she's squeaking! She was on Septrin for 28 days and I thought she was clear. Wilma also has White grit Could this cause the Squeaking?

Patrick also is squeaking he's currently on Baytril although I do have enough for all 3 pigs, I did wish to avoid the Baytril if it was my paranoia but it's not!

Pebbles I'm unsure, I thought I heard a squeak lastnight but it is uncomfirmed as too if she was warning Patrick off or not.

Patrick is still squeaking and this is the 6th day of Baytril, I'm waiting till the 10 Days are up then I shall be asking for him to be Xrayed to be safe. He is only squeaking occasionally. Which I find quite odd!

It is actually driving me insane and I am at a loss of what to do now.

At this stage, I would recommend a round of x-rays, preferably without or only as little anaesthetics as possible to make sure that you are not dealing with bladder sludge/stones.

From my own bitter experience I can only say that cystitis can be VERY hard to get rid of again! malletheadmalletheadmallethead

Do you think I should give the Baytril first or just ask the vet to Xray? Only thing is my Vet said she will have to use a puff of gas?

Should I just get all 3 done? My vet will love me rolleyes

I would recommend asking your vet. But I would at least have Wilma x-rayed for bladder sludge.

Perhaps you can ask her at the same time whether what she would think of you using metacam (antiinflammotry) and cystease. It's not a med but a bladder lining food supplement for cats that is now used for guinea pigs with bladder stone ops or interstitial cystitis as well. For the last five weeks, I have had Nerys on it, and it is working so far. http://www.vetuk.co.uk/digestive-su...cystitis-glucosamine-sprinkle-capsules-p-1146

Is she ever going to come off Cystease?

I think I have Wilma Xrayed cause surely 28days is long enough to beat a UTI!

Hiya

I know this is probably tellying you something you already do (sorry!) but just in case.

Washing up liquids? washing powder residue?

I had to switch all mine to fairy washing liquid with extra rinses to get the residue out and I also use eco balls which have no chemicals at all. And I find that Dolly seems to suffer if I don't rinse and rinse the bottles and bowls after washing?

Could it be a chemical thing causing it? Long shot I know.

Ow, I really hate those blatter problems. They keep on coming back. I also had a moment when 5 guinea pigs were squeaking during peeing, it's soooo frustrating, especially when you know you give all the right things an nothing could trigger it.

You might try giving the guinea pigs Eurologist. I have no idea if anyone in England is familiar with this herbal formula (it's NOT the same as urologist!) but it is a very popular treatment here. Eurologist improves the blatter condition and kan prevent blatterstones and -infections from happening. It has to be given on the long term for best results, for preventing new problems you should best give it for the rest of their lives. Most piggies don't mind it, they even like the taste. I have some guinea pigs eating it from my hand. It works really well, it's the best sold product in the history of the Knoevel webshop. You can find this article on http://www.knoevelkruiden.nl/shop/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=28

I know the website is in Dutch, so you'd better contact the owner Desiree at [email protected] . The income from the Knoevelkruiden webshop is used to take care of the ill satin guinea pigs Desiree takes care of, so you're not only helping your own guinea pigs but also other guinea pigs who need it!

Sorry, 28 days is not that long when you are dealing with a tedious cystitis! :{

Sorry to hear of your plight. I have no advice but you have my heartfelt sympathy.

Do you feed your guinea-pigs pellets that contain colourants? These have been known to cause bladder problems in guinea-pigs. Even if you're not, it may be worth taking them off pellets completely for a few weeks and see if it helps clear it up. So long as they get plenty of fresh food, they'll be fine without pellets.

Hmm, I was not feeding Pellets but with the arrival of Bette and Milo. They are getting miniscale amounts this has been going on about 2 months now before Bette and Milo's arrival they weren't getting pellets then. While Back I was feeding the Blackcurrant ones before they stopped getting them altogether.

I have now decided to try the Cavy Cuisine, as Milo is a growing Pup will he need Cavy Performance, speaking of which I may get him some Alpha Hay. (Note to self).

I've started weighing there veg, so they are getting the right calcium: phospate ratio. I'll be it not exact but I'm doing what makes sense to me. I found it so hard working out the exact ratio.

I'm feeding 2 high Calcuim and three low calcium. Alternating per day too 3 High Calcium with 2 low Calcium. If this isn't good please advise I only decided to start this today.

They all have new fleeces, which they get the same fleece and incontience pad they are all marked. I have stopped using Bunny O Lithium in hayloft, I just have newspaper and hay now that I'm changing more often (Everyday, sometimes twice a day).

There fleece is washed with the Ecoball things that Lisa was speaking of I've always used them for the piggies. There fleece is changed every 3 days, and incopads weekly. I've also started putting newspaper under the fleece to separate it from the incontience pads.

your piggies are pretty clever and well handled - i can't see why they would need GA for xray if they were wrapped correctly. mine pretty much know if they an encased in a towel they are to stay put - jive you have to keep an eye on but cottonbud would sit there and wait for you to come back :). If the vet can't wrap them maybe you can do it for them? No advice for utis as touch wood only i get them in this house :)

Did the cystitis start after you started feeding pellets, or did they have the cystitis before then?

It started a few months after I stopped feeding pellets. Roughly a month later.

Patrick only started the last two weeks that would be in line with the pellets.
