Long story short- the boys were separate but somehow got in the same cage and fought. Duncan had a nasty wound which the vet patched up but now, even though they're in separate cages with a distance between them they're chattering teeth, and the whole thing has been a huge nightmare. I'm worried they're unhappy, and I feel under a lot of stress. Has anyone else had a horrible situation like this? The wound was awful. His fur was all bloody. We got him to the vet instantly though but I just feel so worried.

Oh dear I am so sorry to hear that! :( HUGS!

I have two grumpy chaps living alone too, so I know how it feels. It's really stressful when piggies don't get along. Sending healing vibes to little Duncan :luv:
 
:( Oh no sorry to hear this, that must have been distressing to find.

They are still teeth chattering because of all the upset. Please make sure they can't get at each other again, make sure cages are escape proof. It will calm down in a few days I would imagine give them lots of fresh hay and maybe a few treats of veg to distract their tiny little minds away from war...
 
Thank you guys! Their cages are close but fully sealed and Godfrey is in a run designed to be used outdoors, it's pretty high and even if he got out somehow he can't get into Duncan's cage. But I'm all shaken up, ugh.
 
So sorry to hear this.
I know from previous threads that you have tried so hard with your boys, so I am sorry it ha ended up this way.

Is there any possibility to move one of them to another room?
Even in the short term to allow them to settle down.

Other things to try would be white noise in the background (a radio playing static works fine), lots of hay, a new cardboard box hidey for each boy, a chew stick or other 'project' that will distract them.
They will be fine, but distance and distractions are what they need right now.
And big hugs for you - I can not imagine how difficult this must be for you.
 
They both have big piles of soft hay, at opposite sides so they're further away from each other if that makes sense. Tomorrow I'll see if I can distance the cages even further, but I'm scared they'll get to each other.
Duncan has a C&C cage, and Godfrey has a run and they're separate with a gap so even if one escapes, which is unlikely, it's very unlikely they can get in the other cage. What do you guys think? I just want to let myself settle down and relax, it's been a terrible evening and I want to do some homework, watch The Simpsons and unwind. But I can't let myself, what if something happens to the boys?! It's all quiet since the hay, don't want to jinx it...Must take this a day at a time.

Duncan is going to have Baytril twice a day, starting tomorrow...will probably have to mix with fruit juice, wish me luck.
I can't stop fretting that they'll have fought somehow, but that's irrational.
 
They've slept most of the day, is that bad? They're responsive and seem fine, I think they're shaken up. We all are, it was horrible to see his fur all bloody:(
 
Poor you and poor Duncan and Godfrey it's a horrible situaion for all of you. I am so sorry you are having all this stress, sending you and Duncan and Godfrey hugs. To help settle things down it may be helpful if they can't see each other. If you don't have room to move one of them to another room or further apart you could try blocking the view from one of the cages. Pierce some cardboard and cable tie it to the side that faces the other cage, peg a blanket on, something like that?
 
I'm glad they've calmed down. Duncan loudly crunched his carrot cottage and Godfrey innocently munched some hay. I'm keeping a close eye on them. Luckily the rumbling and teeth chattering calmed down quickly, will make sure they have lots of hay and a tidy cage. I worry that they're ill even if they seem fine, it's horrible. Seeing Duncan's wound is really upsetting but he's recovering and he's going to be seen again for a checkup. Now I'm worried about Godfrey for no reason! He seems a bit more subdued but I could be imagining it and he certainly seems healthy. It's like my mind lives to torment me.
 
I know it's hard but try not to worry, you are doing everything you can for your piggys and that's all anyone can ask. You got Duncan prompt vet treatment and the boars are separated. They will be subdued they've upset themselves as well as you. I get anxious over those what if torments from time to time, when my mind does this to me I like to give it something else to think about and keep busy or go for a walk, that's easy to say, not so easy to do!
