I have had my guineas for three years now but the first year I didn’t handle them much. Now I want to handle them they seem shy and run away. Are there any tips or activities I can do with my piggies so we can bond.

Only two of my 8 piggies will willingly let me pick them up, the rest run and hide, but they all enjoy lap time, especially if veggies are involved! Do they seem ok once you catch them?

Check in the Behaviour and Bonding section for tips on piggy whispering.
None of mine really like being handles but are happy to be stroked in the cage or sitting beside me on the floor during play time.
Food and patience are they key

Some piggies don’t like handling and some love it. They get more used to it over time but after a year with my rescues they still get easily spooked and while in their cage only let me stroke his head.
I take him out and he is a lot more calm so I would suggest to take them out while handling until they get more used to it.

One of my pigs loves to lie down in my arms like a baby and get his belly stroked.

Best wishes with them x

Once my piggies are on my lap they are calm but the first minute or two they seem distressed and try to crawl out of my lap.

As you can see in my avatar once my piggy is calm he will lie on his back and get his belly rubbed which always surprises me as most guineas do not like that.IMG_0145.webp
