following on from Nacho's op, he has already pulled out the stitches, and now today has had the wound stapled, but now he's pulled out one of those too mallethead I have tried using one of the sleeves from Josh's tshirts, and a fishnet stocking, but both came off, even though i put little leg holes in them mallethead the vet didn't really have any ideas either, so i need your brains to help me.
The stitches run down under his neck to between his front legs.

:)

Silly boy. rolleyes

Maybe tubigrip? I don't know about size though. Or maybe children's leggings?

I was thinking of tubigrip too. How naughty is he!

Can you get a large yoghurt-type pot (so it gets wider as it gets taller)? Cut the bottom off and drill two holes in the side and put it over his head (rather like dogs where bottomless buckets) and secure it to a small bunny rabbit type harness (using string through the holes) so it doesn't fall off.

Edit: You could make a pot out of cardboard if you don't have one.

I've got visions of his cardboard being nibbled by other piggies! I shouldn't laugh poor thing but he would look such a sight! I hope you can find a solution. COuld he be pulling his stitches out because they're itchy?

what about some dolls clothing-the larger type is it baby annabelle? where they have shirts for the dolls maybe put his front legs through the arms, enlargen the neck and the buttons /velco along his back, I'm sorry if I havent expained it very well but imagine if we were to put a shirt on back to front.

LOL You could start a new fashion in designer pig clothes.:)):))

I did see a dinosaur costume on here a while back....

I can see it now Midge & Panda on the front cover of Vogue modelling the latest fashions - well if Victoria Beckham can do it LOL

lol, :))
well, i've tried a sock, with leg holes, it lasted all of 10 minutes, been to Boots and got bandages, i've weaved them round his legs. lets see how long that stays on for! :))

He hates me now though, he's tried to bite me 4 times already today :(

xx

or maybe ther is something you can put on them so they taste really yucky kinda like that nail biting stuff obviously it'll have to be piggie and wound safe?

GingersnappyIMG_3506.jpg

Ginger was a naughty nibbler and had a large incision laterally across his abdomen where he had a large mammary tumour removed. After his second op to be sown up, the vet discharged him into my care with this little "nappy" (he had already tried unsuccessfully to fit a proper guinea pig collar but Ginger kept wriggling out of it :))). It is quite tight but Ginger was able to move around freely and an area was cut away underneath so he could wee and poo without dirtying the nappy too much and risking contaminating the wound.

The nappy is made from a small tubigrip - the trick is to cut a long length and fold it back on itself once it is in position on the piggie. For a wound at the front, I think I would cut leg holes first and put it on to half way along his body with a large amount overhanging his nose. I would cut a second set of legholes further up the tubigrip so I could fold it back on itself over his head and put his front legs through the second lot of leg holes.

Unfortunately despite my vets wonderful handiwork, the first time I tried to change it on my own, he wriggled and ripped open his wound again. After a third operation followed by more nibbling, the vet removed all the stitches and boarded him for 4 weeks, debriding the wound and applying special creams three times a day until it had healed enough for him to be discharged into my care.

It's worth trying the tubigrip - but be warned it is definitely a two person job. (Hindsight is a wonderful thing) One person holds open the tubigrip by putting both hands inside and stretching it wide to pass it over his head while the other keeps the piggie securely held and guides his feet through the holes........

HTH - Good luck!

Naughty Nacho! TubiGrip as the bottom layer with VetWrap on top should be fine, just make sure you can get your little finger underneath the bandage.

I've been down the 'elizabethan collar' route and generally speaking, it's not a viable option!

Thanks everyone. I used a bandage last night, I managed to tie it at the top. It seems to have done the trick. I removed the bandage this morning as it had some blood on it and the lower part of the wound has started to congeal and heal over, but the top part was still open.

I decided to leave the bandage off today as he didn't show any interest in the staples today and the wound seems much better this evening.
Fingers crossed he will leave it alone tonight!
:)

Good boy Nacho, and well done for finding something Nacho proof!

Sounds extremely positive - well done!

.If he does however ever decide to be un-co-operative - for info - I believe myvet let Ginger's wound heal by (quote vetspeak) "secondary intention".

I quizzed him today and now have the details of the creams etc he used if you feel you need to try an alternative (but hopefully you wont as it;s all sounding good so far)...but please by all means PM me. My vet is not far from yours .....in Horsham

How is Nacho today? I hope he has continued to ignore the wound. Well done for finding a Nacho-proof solution in the short term anyway!

yeah, he has ignored it so far, we went to the vets for a check up and she's pleased with the way its beginning to heal, he said its not really worth re stitching him, as he's likely to undo it again. She said sometimes its best to just leave it to heal as no matter what you do, they'll keep undoing it!

So yeah, he's doing well, back to his old self again.
oh, and the results of the test came back, the lump wasn't anything bad, just a lipoma :)

He's on baytril 0.8 once a day and i have to clean the area with salt water and we have another check up in a week. :)

I'm so pleased its all gone smoothly, yay! don't know what i was so worried about :p
