Hello all,

I haven't been on here much recently, I am currently on the path to getting an exotic vet service set up with a specialist in London (exciting times).

I'm in need of a little bit of feedback (unrelated to the above). I am currently in the process of starting a research project on guinea pigs and bladder issues. This seems to be a huge problem with piggies at the moment. All i need to know just right now is how many we are seeing on the board here. (I know this isn't an across the boards sample of people as the majority of people on here are fab owners, unfortuntaly many are not.) I just want to put my feelers out and see your response. All i need is an answer from you for the following:

- How many guinea pigs you have owned (past an present)
- How many of these guinea pigs have suffered a bladder complaint like cystitis (not stones)?
- How many have suffered from uroliths (stones)?

Thank you all so very very much for any replies i get. Please answer even if you havent had a piggie with a bladder issue. This tells me the numbers of piggies not effected too which is important.

I currently have 15 pigs of which 3 have Interstitial cystitis.

Of my pigs that are no longer with us one had a stone. I have lost I think 11 pigs.

When I volunteered at piggy clinic in Broxbourne I saw a large number of pigs with both stones and IC. I also know of at least 3 friends' pigs with IC.

Very interesting that there will soon be an exotics specialist in London.

Let me know if you need any further information. Am in WGC most weekdays so just shout.

I have five guinea pigs.
One suspected urine infection which did not respond to medication. She had to have crystals removed from her bladder.
No stones.

Do I get to see a picture of nutmeg as a reward?

Current head count is six. We have lost five. Total eleven.

One female Daisy has had a urethral stone removed and current situation is chronic inflammation of bladder with consistent sludge formation, managed with long term metacam and glucosamine supplement. Has had two bladder flush procedures. Also one male Alvin prone to sludge formation currently managed on low calcium diet. Other nine clear of bladder issues. So two!
- How many have suffered from uroliths (stones)?
Daisy has had a urethral stone removed and I think she passed one recently too. So one!

As an added note, one of them recently died (31st January 2014) from an ongoing battle with Cystitis most of his life. The other, Matthew with it, no longer has any problem as I've changed his diet and it's now gone. Gilbert was also on the same diet but his was stronger than Matthews Cystitis and sadly despite all I did, nothing could be done.

- How many of these guinea pigs have suffered a bladder complaint like cystitis (not stones)? . Hard one to say, Buddy had cystitis but later found it was a side of the abscess. Jemima recently had a suspected cystitis but to be honest they didn't even check her urine to diagnose.
