this may be a bit of a long story so i appologise but i wanted to know if anyone else has ever been in a similar situation.

yesterday last year i got my guinea pig Nobbles. i only had him 5 weeks as he developed an ulcer under his neck and when he went to be neutered they dealt with the ulcer at the same time. unfortunatly it was too much for his little body and he died a few days after surgery.

yesterday i went to pets at home where i got Nobbles and there was a guinea pig there that looked just liked Nobbles. i actually started to shake because it seemed so surreal! i phoned up my boyfriend and explained what had happened he said that if i wanted him then to get him, but if anything went wrong then he didn't want to know about it.

i stood there for a few minutes deciding what to do but i knew i had to have him. i went to the shop assistant and told him that i wanted to take him home. i explained that when he was old enough i would get him castrated and then he could live with the girls. the chap went off to check that this was ok with his manager. he came back and said that the manager would prefer that they go in 2s. so i then had to choose another one! it took me ages as i was only expecting to get 1!

as i drove home i couldn't believe that i now have 5 guinea pigs! i hadn't even planned to get anymore. i think i am still in shock now!

i checked on them this morning and they were still alive and they seem to have had a nibble on the carrots and drunk some water during the night.

i know that people on here don't like people buying pets from pet shops as it a rescue website but it just felt like the right thing to do.

where we are moored at the moment is where Nobbles is buried (i live on a narrow boat) i just think its all a bit spooky.

has anyone on here had a similar situation? i took a picture on my phone this morning of them and i will post it up later.

I'm sorry if this offends people that i have bought guineapigs from pets at home. :)

ohh honey, it doesn't offend me as all of mine are psp's! sometimes you just feel a bond straight away and you just can't leave without them, that's how i went from four to five tw o. i just couldn't leave without my Sonny somehow...

doesn't offend me either,i have some of the most beautiful pet shop pigs,i have decided to only go through rescue now but would not trade my guinea kids for anything, goodluck with your new piggy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

i got mine from a shop

and i still had to sponsor another

i was not aware of rescue when i was looking to get some and as first pets for my littleone we wanted young ones

i realise there are all ages in rescue so i will find a rescue next time

I had a very similar experience and this was just so wierd as I was going my business and saw my Rene (avatar) in the shop and just said: 'what are you doing here?' out loud... then realised it wasn't my Rene and one of the reasons I didn't buy the GP was because that one was a she... Also, I would expect to find Rene's personality in the new one and know that it just wouldn't happen. :(

It does happen...

If it feels right - absolutely go for it! Some things are meant to be!

I bought my first two from a shop when I fell for my Minx' expressive, sad eyes big time. After a longish fight with my conscience, I managed to withstand to adopt another EXACTLY like her only weeks after Minx had died, because the poor new girl would have to live under the shadow of bigger-then-life Minx' memory, and I was still acutely grieving.

But I will be getting another look-alike next month; she's slightly differently marked and as I'm over Minx' loss now, she's free to be herself... Just waiting for her baby daughter to grow up enough to make the trip!

thanks guys. these are the new peeps. i didn't want to disturb then too much so i took a quick shot this morning. this is the first picture i have of them

do you think that when they are older i should get them castrated and try them with the girls or do you think i should just leave them be?

the boys live above the girls. i am so worried about anything going wrong as if it does i don't have the room for anymore cages!

i phoned up the vets and they told me that castration is £90. i am a bit scared about it though as i don't want to lose anymore pets to surgery.

i am told my new boys are 12 weeks old although i think they may be younger as they are so tiny. they seem so fragile! when i put them in the cage they felt as light as tea towels compared to my girls!

i hope everything works out ok :)
