A husky rat!

The pet store in our area sell rats of various color patterns and one is called a "husky" due to it being slate grey and having coat marking a standard husky dog, and by the way the face is gorgeous on the rat too!

I used to have rats back in University and had never seen one of these before (I should have got a pic while in the store or the rats), I just had your usual japanese black hooded rats.
There was a husky baby male when I went to get GP food today and ugh I was so tempted.

I had s husky rat.I got her from Blackpool. She was a husky Rex and absolutely beautiful.I don't keep rats any more as they are so prone to disease and it hurt too much losing them.

Sooooo cute! I do miss having rats but although one of the kids also really likes them I a going to try hold off getting any for a while! I don't need more pets right now. Plus it just makes vacations even harder, it's already difficult getting GP care while away and "most" people have such unfounded fears and issues with rats.

Also thinking back I can't even remember what they used to be fed. I think we just used to feed them on rat pellets and random tidbits of pizza, potato chips, whatever someone was eating that they begged for (oh the bad student life!) terrible! They lived in woodshavings and paper bedding I remember that...what are they like on fleece or will they just eat it?

Mine just ate fleece.Gave up and used aubiouse.
Maybe we'll just stick to wood shavings then but a better diet than Uni days!

Is it bad I already have names decided in my head? We will be getting some but not yet..maybe at Christmas if I can hold off that long.

What are you gonna house them in?Where do you live?

I've have to purchase them their very own ratty mansion. And I am over in the big landmass that is continental europe.

Shame.I have a big cage all metal that I used for mine and they loved it.It won't be getting used again .

I love rats so much! Baby rats make me so happy!
Babies or adults there is just something about those faces!

Whats the modern standard for rat cage sizes? I confess back in Uni they were just kept in small tanks sometimes 2-3 rats per tank. Not that they ever stayed in very long only for sleeping and sometimes not even then! They had a habit of escaping and you'd find them anywhere warm the next morning!

Not sure if there is the same sort of standard as for piggies. With rats it depends how much time they spend outside the cage and since they climb I think activities available and climbing space makes a huge difference as well. Also how many of course

Oh they'd not spend much time in the cage when I am around. I am more than happy to roam the house with a rat on my shoulder all evening!

i'd go for 2. Nice cage so roomy!

It is actually classed as an aviary cage but can be used for chinchillas, degus or rats,All metal. My girls were small so had plenty of room.EBay sell some lovely hammocks, tunnels etc.

I would steer clear of wood shavings as not the best bedding for rats. I have four girls and they make great pets .:D
