my piggie Bows was sick not too long ago (she had a chest infection)
I found out after hearing her sneeze (had never heard any of my piggies sneeze before! lol it was really weird)
anyways she was put on anti-biotics, which i administered twice a day until it all finished, and the vet said she was okay.

Today i've been hearing some noises from their cage, it's hard to describe, its like a cough/wheeze or a sort of retching sound..
Every time i hear it i run out there and try to see who it is that's making the noise. but it's stops and i wait for a while and i still hear nothing...then i leave and a bit later i hear it again! It's definately coming from the piggies, and i'm assuming it's Bows seeing as she was sick last, but it could be Socks..

Has anyone ever heard that noise before? or know what it is? I've checked inside their mouths to make sure nothing is blocking their airway and its clear (JUST HEARD IT AGAIN!) okay it's definately like a mix of a retching/wheeze/cough and something else...

I can't get hold of the vet, so any help will be great! :)

xx

Bec it sounds like what Duke does.....if you manage to see them they actually look like they've done a HUGE cough...
It means probably the chest infection is back....dam it :(
She needs to see the vet and get them to listen into her lungs... antibiotics maybe for a longer course might be best? i'd ask them
LOTS OF HEALING WHEEEEEEEEKS for little Bows from us both xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Thanks Glynis...i think you're right, it definately seems like its back...it sounds horrible when i hear the noise...i hate seeing her sick :(
I'll have to keep trying the vet.. she doesn't have any meds left, so i can't start her on anything till i see the vet :(

Thanks for your help Glynis..i'll go and keep trying the vet now :)

I would get her back to the vet as soon as possible to get her checked out just in case.

Let us know how things go.

Hey Bec how's little Bows?
i'm going to send you a message via msn as well :)
We've been thinking of you both xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

thank you for all your well wishes and help. i really appreciate it.

Well things aren't that great, Bows is definately sick and i can't get in touch with my vet *** she has gone on holidays
I've tried so hard ringing around to find another vet, no other vets i called care for guinea pigs, and the ones that "specialise in small animals", when i called and asked if they could give me Baytril, they had NO idea what i was talking about! grrrr So frustrating! So i'll have to wait till my own vet comes back and that's 2 weeks away! Does anyone know of some 'home remedies' i can try in the meantime? I'd really appreciate the help..

You could try Baby Sudafed. It's in a blue and white packaging. 0.3mls pers day for up to 3 days. It has to be the one for children. I used to give my sow this also to help with allergy and it definately stopped her nose squeaking. Hope this helps.
