Sadly i had to have my Fritzy put to sleep 2 weeks ago, he was only aged 4. It was obviously very sad for all of us, but i was particularly worried about Donut, his cage mate, because they have been together since she was a babe.

Since he went she has been SO sad. She is still eating and drinking ok, but spending all her time in her bed, and has not made a single noise. I thought she might squeak a lot, looking for him, but she hasn't made a sound. He was ill for a few days in the cage, before he went into the vets, so i wonder if maybe she knew he wouldn't be back.

This is the first time for about 10 years that i have only had ONE guinea pig - so i didn't even have the option to move others nearer to her, or in with her - as i have done when i have had bereavements in the past.

Anyway - today i came home from work and she gave me the biggest squeak ever! It actually made me jump, and now she is eating celery and making little noises. It is lovely to hear her again. Although she looked physically fine - i was so worried she would die of a broken heart.

I have been speaking to Honeybunnies today - and i hope to get another piggie (or maybe two?!) very soon.

Firstly, I am very sorry to hear about Fritzy.8...8... All of you must have been devastated.

Secondly, I am pleased to hear that Donut is starting to feel better. I have had a guinea die pining & it is horrible, losing 2 piggies so quickly. The other thing is that even when they don't die pining, they do mourn. The thing is, like people they need to be allowed to mourn 8... - no matter how hard it is for the owners:(.

Let's hope you find a wonderful friend for Donut soon & another furry friend for you.

Hugs & squeaks are being sent your way from my manly crew

I am sorry for your loss.

Guinea pigs know very well when a companion isn't well, or dying. They need time to mourn as much as we do. It can be hard for us when they do not want to turn to us for comfort, as we would rather like to share our sorrow. I am glad that Donut has now come out of it. You must be so relieved!

Hopefully, you can find her one or two new friends. Please let us know how you and Donut are getting on!
