Honor has been pining since loosing Haven and i was waiting to hear back from my nearest mixing rescue....bur i was supposed to hear back Monday and have since emailed and no word...so worried about Honor i visited my local RSPCA.
I have since reserved a neutered male. Is is older like Honor...age unknown...he has slight cataracts and is very sweet. He didn't run when i opened the hutch and let me pick him up fine twice for a cuddle. He has been reserved and pending a home check i will bring him home and try mixing myself. He is a similar size and fluffy just like Honor. ..
I know it means mixing myself...but am mire confident since mixing Honor and Haven. He is seemingly quite placid and similar activness to Honor. All in all pending the home check i will bring him home and attempt mixing and if not they have a couple of other neutered males suitable...and i have my fall back rescue...but as they are smaller and very busy the rspca will be the quicker option....as i hate seeing Honor sad :-) Hopefully in a week or so Honor may have a friend.

Good luck! Hopefully Honor will love the concept of meeting a mister; he will certainly enjoy a loving home. When doing intros yourself, I find it very helpful to leave the piggies side by side for a day or two, so they can meet through bars and the newbie has time to get his bearings and is less stressed out.

Piggies can live quite happily with cataracts

thanks @Wiebke. I don't have space to do side by side....unless maybe i split my c&c into two 2x2 cages for a day or two... Or i have a portable run i can put him in across the bedroom ...what do you think be better?

Splitting your C&C is fine for a short time; I have done it myself when bonding new piggies that have come a distance. You know that things are ready when there is friendly interest across the bars. Coordinating browsing etc. is also every encouraging. How Honor reacts to him also depends on where in the oestrus cycle she is.
You can find more information at the top of our Behaviour and Bonding section.

Thanks everyone. He is super cute, as soon as i saw him he felt like "the one" and when i cuddled him and read his info...it just seemed even more of a perfect fit. Hopefully he and Honor will get on. Home check usually takes about a week for my local rspca...so hopefully in a week or so will be able to bring him home. He was an unwanted pet...age unknown and generally a bit neglected before he came in...he was neutered about 7/8 weeks ago. His name is Sweep at the moment........unsure if i will keep or change it...its kinda sweet so i think i may keep his name...will see...will wait and see how they get on before i think about that.

I am very excited for you, you deserve something nice to happen after loosing Haven and your job.

Before I discovered the internet (!) in the 1990s and early 2000s my knowledge of guinea pigs was much more basic and I successfully bonded several of my guinea pigs myself without thinking about it too much at all really (I worry a lot more about everything these days, more knowledge leads to more anxiety!). I just used to put them into side by side runs for a few days to get used to each other, then attempt to mix them in a run with lots of food/grass/hay as a distraction with towels ready in case of a fight. So I would not worry tooooo much about doing it yourself. And there is a lot of excellent information on this forum!

Good luck! I think Sweep is a cute name!

Ooh this is exciting! Sweep sounds so cute. You will be fine with the bonding. In my experience Sweep will be just so happy to be with a girl!

Thanks everyone..I am really excited. Am having a horrible last few months and this if the first good thing i have to look forward to in ages. Hopefully it will go well and be a happy ending for Honor :)....and Sweep :)

Wheee! Great news! Fingers, toes, paws and eyes crossed for you!

Really hope this works out, it will do you and Honor the world of good to have a fluffy little man in your lives! X
