After my surprise this morning with the 2 new additions, I have had a quick look at their bits and I *think* I have a boy and girl (will have a proper look and post pics later). If so I shall need a friend for my boy! Ha ha x

* could get him desex it doesnt cost as much as everyone thinks.

i've just had mine neutered. it cost me just under £50 but that included the pre op consultation and any after care that may have been required. he was perfectly fine having it done. another 2 weeks and he will be moving in with his wifepig. the other thing from what i understand is that if you have 2 males living together in close proximaty to females, they will possibly fight as they will be able to smell them. definitely worth looking into neutering him when he is older then they can all live together - then again it is an excuse for getting another piggy :(|):(|)

Neutering is an option if you have only one boy. However, you need to wait 4-6 months until he is old enough to be operated on by preferably a very good vet to prevent the sadly rather too common risk of post op complications and then you are facing another full 6 weeks' post op wait until a boar is 100% safe to go with sows. (I have the baby from a supposedly "safe" over 5 weeks' post op boar to prove the point in fact!)

Personally, I would prefer to find him a "daddy piggy" at a good rescue that allows you to bring your boy when he needs to be seprated at 3 weeks' age/250g of weight, so he can find the big friend that he gets on with best!

There is an excellent rescue near Leicester (just off Fosse Park) which I have rehomed from myself and which is on our list of recommendable rescues: http://honeybunniesleicesterrabbitandguineapigrescue.webs.com/

Like I said on your introduction thread, you are welcome to have your babies sexed in our pregnancy section.

That's a pretty good excuse for a new piggy, i'll be honest lol.
As the others have said it may be cheaper to get him castrated due to buying a new hutch etc. but it's up to you and i'd go for a new piggie ;)

There is riaks involved with neuetring and it will be along time before he is old enough to have it done and a while after until its safe for him to be with girls, please take him boar dating.

Its easy to say just get him done, but without a really good vet and great after care and the risk of the anesthetic it would be best to try and find him another boar friend from a rescue before this is considered.

Thats a great excuse for a new family addition !

Hope you find a way of sorting out your little piggy family (:

your making me freak out now.... my nurtured boy went in with his wife after 4 weeks post op.

Hi there, I'm in Leicester myself so can recommend a cavy savvy vet should you need one (recommended to me by honeybunnies rescue) and where I took Peter to get him neutered to live with my girls.

If you aren't 100% sure of the sex I would separate them until you are sure although if they are different sexes then you face the chance of babies I'm afraid! I would find out exactly what the sexes are as if you have a pregnant pig you might end up with a boy and girl baby and can have two pairs rather than taking on extra pigs now and having even more come along.

Sorry ignore me, have been distant on the forum recently and just caught up on other threads showing you have surprise babies so they won't be old enough to reproduce mallethead... I'll get there one day honest :))

he was neutered the week of valentines day which is Feb. 14th. So they went together mid March once Ruby's fungal infection cleared up and got the okay by the vet. So about a month a ago.

Well its going to be a case of a waiting game then, have you been weighing her weekly?

I have no scale. I know was a pup when I got her, 2nd to last week of Jan. She has grown quite a bit. I will start, make my OH bring over his. She doesn't appear to fat in the bum area though. I will check her more closely and see if I can feel anything. I haven't witnessed any humping or mating, but I am not able to supervise them 24/7 either.

Well i am hoping you would have been lucky, before i was a member on here i had my boy "done" and he was introduced again after 4 weeks and all was fine. But best way to tell is to weigh her ad record her weight gain, as she is still a baby though she will still be putting on weight anyway so its going to be tricky. x
