The last few days every time I go to clean up the piggy cage my nose starts running and I start sneezing. Once this starts for hours later I have this tickle in my nose and just keep feeling like I have to sneeze. I recently changed from the kaytee hay to oxbow so I'm not sure if that is the culprit. I didnt like the kaytee cause there was a lot of brown pieces in there and a lot of dust. The oxbow seems better and the piggies love it. I tried giving them kaytee orchard grass before but they would not eat it. Do you think if I give them the oxbow brand orchard grass they might eat that? I hope I can correct this because I dont want my allergies to get worse and then turn into asthma. Thanks for any suggestions.
Do you just have the problem when you clean the cage out? Or do you also have problems when you handle your guinea pigs?
I know if ever I had problems when cleaning a cage I would try using one of those masks you can get from Do It Yourself stores so I could cover my mouth an nose whilst cleaning the cage. I have used them when I went up in the loft to sort some insulation out so it's something worth considering.
It may pass I'm allergic to guineas and I manage with 7 everytime I get a new one I come up in hives on my arm where it has touched their skin. It stops after a while and I'm fine then sure enough I grt it again when I get another. It must be their fur as I'm not allergic to my new skinny. Fingers crossed you will get used to hay and itll pass x
I'm allergic to mine sneezing and red blotches if they touched my skin. I think mine is related to their claws and maybe their pee.
Hopefully it'll pass if not anti-histeramines might help
