When I took Misty on the lady who gave her to the rescue sent a note with her that had in big capital letters 'SHE IS NOT USED TO A DOUBLE HUTCH' I thoughts she had said that Misty's sister who had frozen to death this last winter had fallen down the hole for the ramp all the way to the bottom and broken her leg and it wasn't right after that.

Misty has been in the shed cages until last night - she came in for a bath and I kept her and Duke in, She's been in a 2 x 2 temp cage and where she is pottering around when she thinks I can't see (rather than running from me for her life) she is DEFINITELY limping. I'm beginning to think the lady had either fibbed or she I misheard. Poor love it looks sore. How could I have missed it?

I'm off to the vet again with Dickens this morning so going to bring her along too.

OH and her ears OMG I had a good look - they are rank, really nasty. So he can look at those too I suppose (that's a seperate post on manky ears).

Wish us luck!

I've had a couple come in with healed leg fractures from falling from ramps that didn't have sides to them. They did well - though how much pain they must have been in while they healed without pain relief! I've met two that had legs amputated because of fractures - again they coped well.

I've had one with a newly broken pelvis and front leg because he was dropped, the family worked so I agreed to care for him - and it meant they got educated in the mean time. After vet assessment, he was on Metacam and in a small cage to restrict his movements, it worked really well - after three weeks he was walking normally and would've liked more room but I kept him in a 2x1 cage for another three weeks and reduced the metacam slowly. He is fit and well now and back with his family - a more educated family.

Piggies seem to adapt and cope well with what would be life changing injuries to us.

I do hope Misty is not in any pain and is on the mend soon. Are her ears smelly or just gunky?

I text the woman who gave her to the rescue and she said it was Misty when she was 10 weeks old (shes 2 now)

That explains that.

Her ears are full of bumpy gunky stuff. I tried to clean them and black was coming out of them. I'd rather they get looked at I think. She's had her ivomectin and first fungal bath and I did puta little in her ears. I didn't want tp push it last night so I left them but i think it will put my mind at rest of the vet sees her.

Good idea - she may need antibiotic ear drops. I've had one with a severe ear infection due to a heavy mite infestation - Poppet, my golden teddy that looked like a skinny pig when she came in - she would get clods of crusty gunk blocking her ear canal that needed to be removed with tweezers every day to get the drops far enough down to work. It took a while but it did clear.

Poor girl!

I hope that you can get her checked over and hopefully cleared up!

Ask for MALASEB! It's a prescription only shampoo that does wonders with fungal teddies! The rescue here swears by it!

Poor wee girl, lot's of thoughts from us!

Well she has possible eczema in her ears and has drops that treat bacterial, fungal, and ear mite infections and provides anti-inflammatory and antipuritic activity

She had a run round his room and she bunny hops. He's thinking arthritis or scurvy or effects from the break. So it's metacam twice a day and see how she manages. Extra vitamin C too - I have osteocare here too so I may try her on that too see if it helps.

Then the fungal for her back so more shampooing until it's gone.

Poor love!

I hope that your efforts help and can make her much more comfortable in herself!

I think she's a lucky little girl to have found you! I know it's going to mean she's with you for a while before she can get rehomed, it's going to be hard not to fall in love with her.

Poor Misty, lucky she has you to help her! I hope all her ailments improve. Keep up the great work. xx

Thanks Laura - anything else you can think of to help her out?

Nothing comes to mind, you're on top of it all as far as I can see. :)

The ear drops are Surolan? I've heard of those being used more and more often.
