Hello I am new to this forum so hi to all

I would just like a bit of advice on my guinea pig (jam) she is about 3 months old I purchased her just over two months ago I got her for my boy Brucey he's about 5 months old he's been neutered I completely disagree with breeding 100% no disrespect to any one that's just my opinion anyways about a week ago I heard some weird groaning noises coming from her cage and went to check and she had given birth to one pup I was so confused I didn't know how she could have gotten pregnant I'd noticed she'd put on a bit of weight but nothing alarming so I rang up the lady I got her from the lady openly admitted that all the guinea pigs she had were mixed sex and all kept in the same cage up until selling I hung up on her anyways jam lost the baby due to struggling to give birth I got her checked out by my vet straight away he said she was fine just needed to recover but it's been a week now and she's is barely eating and drinking and all she does all day and night is sit in her little house she doesn't move an inch I've tried everything I can think of all her favourite foods new cage set up even buying her new toys but she still won't move if anyone has any advice anything is appreciated I'm really worried for her

Thank you

Hi! Please have her vet checked asap to see whether her pelvis is broken or she has taken some other serious birthing damage. Also have her checked for pregnancy toxaemia. She may have an infection.
How piggy savvy is the vet you are using? Could you please add your country to your details as we have members and enquiries from all over the world.

Step in weighing daily instead of the regular weekly check-up and step in with syringe feeding and watering ASAP. Not Eating And The Importance Of Syringe Feeding Fibre

Poor you and poor Jam to have been so carelessly looked after.
Sorry about the loss of the pup.
Follow @Wiebke ’s advice and I hope all works out well for Jam when she’s seen a vet.
Please keep us posted.
Welcome to the forum

She has been checked at the vets twice and both times he has said that there is nothing wrong with her he is not an exotic vet because I can not find one near me I have tried to syringe feed her but she just spits it out my vet has been looking after all my animals since I was a child and he suggested that maybe her cage is too small and that's making her sad but I know that isn't the issue there cage is huge I gave them an entire large double bedroom in my house with lots of things to do and play in they have the full room to read roam and thankyou all for your replies I appreciate it

I'm not sure where you're located, but have you tried searching on our Vet Locator? Link here: Guinea Pig Vet Locator These are all recommended piggy savvy vets and will be able to offer you more specific advice than a general vet can - nothing against your own vet, but it can make a huge difference.

How did you find the syringe feeding guide? Was there anything you're not quite sure of or struggling with - and are you using mashed pellets or a special recovery food like Critical Care?

I would first rule out a physical problem... has she been assessed for fractures sustained in a difficult birth? For retained placenta or other birth-related mishaps? An x-ray or other imaging may be in order here. I'm so sorry that you were put in this situation to begin with, both for you and for Jam! I hope you are able to get to the bottom of it.
