I have two smooth haired female guinea pigs who live outside, today i noticed that one of them was looking thinner and was allot lighter than the other and they have always been about the same weight and size, i also noticed that her fur was all puffed up and she was hopping instead of walking and was kind of hunched over but she eats fine. When i picked her up i could feel all her ribs. They are both five close to six years old i'm worried can anyone help?:(

I'm sorry to hear she's not well. Definately a trip to the vets is needed as it could be a number of things so best to get her checked out. Fur fluffed up and hopping would make me think she could well be in some pain.
If you need the contact for a good guinea pig vet please let us know your area and we will hopefully have a member who can recommend on for you.

P.S. welcome to the forum!

thanks well i asked my parents to make a appointment at the vets and they said they would make it for next Saturday do i need to take her earlier?

Personally I would try to get an appointment for tomorrow for her, pigs go downhill quite quickly.

For now, I would bring them in overnight or at least give them something warm and fleecy to cuddle up in. If she is underweight, she will get cold, therefore using more energy to keep herself warm, thus losing more weight.. it's a horrid circle.

Definitely get in earlier if I were you. A week is a long time and if you get help before then she can be well on the road to recovery by the time she would have got to the vet if you'd have waited until Saturday. It's good that she is still eating. Either way is weigh her everyday until you get to the vets to see how fast she is loosing weight.

could it be something to do with her age, she has never been ill?

I would get her to the vets tomorrow. The longer you leave it the harder it can be to get them better again (and more expensive in the long run)
It could be her age, it could be arthritis which would be why she's hopping and looking like she's in pain. It could be problems with her teeth and although she looks like she's eating ok she might not be eating as much because it's hard work so she's loosing weight. It could be a number of things, the only way you'll know is by a vet seeing her, I'm just guessing as would anyone on the forum be doing without seeing her.
Old age alone wouldn't be causing a big weight loss, pain and struggling walking.
Please try and convience your parents to take her tomorrow.

ok thankyou

Good luck, let us know how you get on. Hope she's ok.
(make sure you take her friend with her when you go to the vets, she'll feel much happier than if she's on her own)

1.
first of all you need scale and weight your pigs.
It is not allow difference in weight more than 30gramm a day.
If you will weight same time everyday, weight normally should be same or more.
2.
Make you sure they got enough food.
They should have unlimited amount of hay and water. It is nto allow to hay finished in cage.
Make sure that both pigs eat enough. Also each pig we give half of carrot for 4 days, half of pepper for 2 days peace of parsley everyday and pellets.Spread equally for everyday.
3.If you will see that guinea pig is not eating on her own:
Please find syringe and feed manually. How to make to do it you can find on youtube

4.Need to find good vet,who knows what to do.Not every vet know how treat guinea pigs.If you tell what area you live other member will help you.
