Hello everyone,

Over the last few days I have noticed that one of my two male piggies reacts differently to the other.

Out of the two Ludo is a lot more vocal and reacts to noise aswell as things he sees, eg, he hears the hay bag and knows when I have opened the upstairs kitchen area to put veggies in. He is still very skittish but as I have only had them for a few weeks that is understandable.

Hoggle is different. He sees me but if he is upstairs and has his back to me he doesn't run. I'm thinking he can't hear me or at least can only partially hear me.
He is eating well, gaining weight (but not as fast as Ludo) but he doesn't make any noise. Even when Ludo is being dominant and trying to hump him/swaying his hips and rumblestrutting Hoggle is silent.
I have checked his teeth and they are good but I guess one of my main worries is the Lethal thing. Is it always only pew's that are lethals? Hoggle is a roan and I worry that maybe he has deafness from dodgy genes.

Am I worrying other nothing? Maybe he is just a bit more placid than Ludo and enjoys cuddles more?

There's a hoggle and ludo on here to!
Maybe he's just a bit laid back?

You can make an easy test when you have Hoggle on your lap. Clap your hands behind his back where he can't see your movement and see how he reacts to the sudden noise.

There are some silent piggies who apparently haven't got a voice.

Sending Hoggle my best wishes!

Hi tiggy,

Lethals have serious problems right from birth, and they are much smaller than a healthy guinea. Put simply, you'd know if you had a lethal piggie on your hands. They are always white.

I do have a deaf PEW though; there was an interesting thread on deaf piggies a while back - if it helps any?

I determined her deafness with an alarm clock of all things! She doesn't react to sound at all.

Thanks for the replies,

I've just had an extra 10 mins of floor time to see if I could test him. He didn't hear me clap loudly behind him, or my alarm on my mobile but somehow he heard me clicking my fingers:{

I think I will have to do some tests over the weekend and see how we get on. As soon as I got him out Ludo was making a lot of noise because he wanted to come out again too:)) Thanks for the link, it's good to know others have silent piggies I was worried that he was miserable.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest over Lethals too:)

For proper tests you need to make sure that he cannot react to movements connected with noises.

However, his "disabilites" won't keep him fom leaving a happy and full life.

Thanks for that. I'll test him properly this weekend, it's good to know that even if he is, it will not be a problem for him. Bless him he is fantastic.
