Hi everyone,

I think Rooney is poorly again. A month ago he had an operation to remove a bladder stone that had got stuck in his penis. The symptoms he showed at the time were loss of appetite, sitting on the sofa facing the corner and very loud squealing and lifting his bum up when weeing.

Since the operation he has done well and the vet was happy with him. I stopped giving him and his brother round lettuce and have replaced it with romaine lettuce, stopped giving them cucumber and have started giving them apple which is meant to help.

Today Rooney is on the sofa playing, has eaten normal amount of food but is squealing (not as loud as last time) and lifting his bum up when weeing. There's no visible blood in his wee.

I am worried....

oh no...
I'm sorry to hear he was so poorly...
if your worried i always live by thats an indicator to get them to the vets...
i'd say phone the vets first thing and see if you can be squeezed in early on...
good luck...
fingers crossed hes okay...

My main concern is whether a bladder stone can come back that quickly?

He might have a UTI (urinary tract infection) and/or crystals in his wee. My piggy Bella had both these at the same time. Until you get to the vet, try giving him some unsweetened cranberry juice. Even if it isn't crystals or a UTI, cranberry juice won't hurt.

Best of luck! x

I'm going to ring the vet first thing in the morning and take him in. The poor little thing. I don't want him having to go through surgery again so soon. He seems very happy though and is running around unlike he was when he was unwell last month.

You need to take him back to the Vet. He will need Xrayed again Stones can form in 3 weeks.

As for the diet, he needs variation. No one really understands what causes Stones. There are ways to prevent them, for me the big one seems to be the Calcium : phosphate ratio (From what I have read and my vet advised).

definately get to the vet as soon as you can, i had this with pepper, he had a stone removed and another formed, poor Rooney x

fingers crossed its not another stone x

No stone. Thankfully! He wee'ed whilst being X-Rayed and didn't strain. Typical. £93 later....!

Perhaps there was something irritating his bladder and that was causing the discomfort.

I would still keep a close eye on him. Weigh him at least once a week and as mentioned, you may want to consider Calcium : phosphate ratio of the diet that you feed your piggies. There is a good thread in the food section and you'll get good info on http://www.guinealynx.info

I've been watching him weeing. He's squealing a little when weeing but not raising him bum up. I went to get him out of his hutch this morning and he didn't want to come to me at all! They are never like that - they sit and wait to be picked up. I think he thought I was taking him away to the vets again. Poor little thing.

ooooooh noooooooooo poor little Rooney :(
Oh bless him, gosh they do remember meds and the vets don't they! :{
