Huge hugs.Hurts like hell, I know. The burial spot sounds beautiful. You gave her a wonderful life. She was a very lucky girl.

I am so sorry.
This is what happened exactly to me, too. My girl Copper, Did the exact thing. Half an hour later she passed.
Don't beat yourself up for it, you did everything you could to help. I bet she had a happy, comfortable life.
Popcorn free Queenie:hug:

I am so sorry for you . Queenie was beautiful. She is up in Piggie heaven now enjoying herself. At least she was loved and thats all you can do. You sound very caring and a great owner (and your husband!).

I always show the piggies their friends bodies, its awful, I hate it and it kills me every time but I honestly think it makes a big big difference. The only time I did not do this (many years ago when I knew no better) a little girl I had at the time was very traumatised as a result. It took her a long time to come to terms despite her being in a group.

My boy Sebastian lost his wife pig a while ago and he was hit hard but would have been much worse if he had not had closure.

Take time to remember the good times, cry as much as you want and gradually the pain will go.

Hugs x

Sadly I had to go through this on Monday with Sebastian. The girls said their goodbyes. One was nudging him, licking him to try and understand. The others sniffed his body and then walked off. They were very jumpy and quiet for 24 hours but they are doing fine now. So I honestly think this approach works much better. Just harder for us humans.

It is a hard thing to do, isn't it. One of the most heart breaking things I've ever witnessed was with a previous pair of piggies we had - when Harriet died (the piggy in my avatar), we showed her body to her friend Milly. Milly just lay down next to her, very close, and looked so sad. My husband and I were both in floods of tears.

On the other hand, when Milly herself passed on, her friend Angelina took absolutely no notice of the body (as far as we could tell), but just wandered off, exploring the room. It was strange, as she absolutely worshipped Milly, so we expected more of a reaction.

I'm so sorry for your own very recent loss.

Thank you Katherine.

Yes they re all so different, I had one absolutely cry his heart out, another boar, he was devastated and just sat by the body and I can do what I can only describe as scream out for a period of about 10 minutes. My mother was with me and like you we were both utterly distraught. It just goes to show how emotional as little animals they can be. A lovely insight into their caring natures.

(although I did have one just trample across their companions body to get food a few years back...clearly she was not as compassionate !) I guess we are all different.

Sorry for your loss xx

This is all so sad. Such a shame they don't do well in heat. I bought a cooler/fan for mine last year and so thankful that I did but their shed was still terribly hot. Very worrying.
RIP little ones and hugs to you x
