hi i went to check on Boris before and when i opened the door he was flopped with his head on its side and his eyes still and not alert,straight away i started getting frantically upset but upon getting closer i picked him up and he moved again then started eating:{i really thought he was gone:...
the only thing i have done that i think may have cause this is this morning i put some bepanthen on he was licking it off which he hadn't done previously could this have done something to him??

hi i took Boris to the vet because each time i left the room and came back even a minute later he was floppy and dead looking:(.The vet asked me to leave him there so they could monitor his strange problem and i have called back since and they are still waiting so i will call again in another hour to check in.Not sure if he will be coming home anytime soon the vet said it isn't normal behaviour and is concerned it may be his sores that are infected that are causing it somehow:{

really sorry to hear that he's taken a funny turn.

Let us know what happens and good luck... How long has he got left in the splint? Can it not be replaced to check all is in order underneath?

hi he has 6 days left in it the vet did say if need be they can take it off earlier but they wouldn't put another on with only six days to go,we are trying to avoid taking it off though i was told that the full six weeks will be better than 5 i will update when i know whats wrong it seems even the vets don't realy know:{

I see but I think the splint, although it's helped repairing him, is taking its toll on the rest of his health and his pal's too. It must be a very difficult decision to be in.

Chin up and good luck.x>>

thanks you actually gave me a good idea though 5 weeks and 1 day are ok maybe i should get the splint taken off now with the small risk that comes with it because if i don't i think i will eventually loseboth my babys.I know Boris isn't handling it at all another 6days may kill him:{

Aw I'm sorry to hear that, thats odd though. Poor piggie! I hope he does better. ♥ Keep us posted! >.<

Oh, dear! I hope you can figure out what is the problem with your boys. It is so difficult when you haven't got a real clue as to what is going on!

Any news on Boris, yet?

Fingers crossed for Boris! That must have been a huge shock for you! x

Little rascal, I hope he's okay. As daft a question as it sounds...are you absolutely sure he wasn't just sleeping? Some piggies can look dead to the world when they're out of it. They tend to sleep with eyes open, and have quite a 'glazed' look in their eyes. Having said that, if it is strange behaviour for him then you've done the right thing to get him checked.

I would hate to be in your position, deciding whether or not to remove the splint early. Keep us updated.

I suppose it's a little early for you now, but I hope the morning brings some good news fro BOris. He's done so well until now AND he's gained international status, which in GP-world is pretty good!

Best of luck from me and my boys.x>>x>>

thankyou all i doubt he was sleeping i have never seen him or any other piggy act like that before it actually brought alot of memorys back because he looked like my rats did when i discovered them dead if he does it when he comes home i will take some pics to show you what i mean its kind of scary though:{ anyway its 230am here and i am going to bed for the night so tired from stressing goodnight everyone i will update in the morning x

Keeping all my fingers crossed for Boris!

Good vibes from Vicky & piggy company

Sending much love and luck to you and Boris, I hope the morning brings good news. x

Any news? >.< Hows the little guy today? :(

hi have been at the vets i don't know if Boris is coming home this afternoon or tomorrow:(.They don't know what was wrong with him so i have to keep monitoring him:{.but they did say he is getting very close to having infected legs,feet,and under his neck where the scabs are from him dragging himself around.i suggested removing the splint 5 days early which isn't that bad accordig to my old vet,but they now want to leave the splint on,rebandage it again and put him on a cart with wheels so he can keep his body off the ground and learn to walk again.now i have to go buy a new cage and i wouldnt know where to start i may give him the nero 4 but his situation will not make him happier,in my mind all this will do is further his depression i am so scared of losing him:(

ok i am really desperate for some help i am in tears currently the vets have just worsened Boris's situation8....
They put his wheels on and he seemed happy but they said to go to my local hardware store to get bigger wheels as he needed them.well i did i got the exact same brand and everything just one size up i have tried to put them through his little axle but the hole is to small,currently his legs look uncomfortable and his body looks bent i don't know what to do?/
he is crying because he is in pain so i just gave him some metacam but he isn't allowed to have bedding only newspaper and his food plate,i am now worried at how to keep him warm.they didnt seem to have any answers for my questions and then after i was told originally that his splint would be off this wednesday they went ahead and cancelled the appt that i made to have his splint removed because they want him in the cart until the wednesday after next:o also the vet rebandaged over his infected sores so i can't even access them to put bepanthen on them8...

Oh how awful for you. Sounds liek the vet is doing all they can to help Boris. How old is he? Would fleece work on the wheels? I'm really lost because I've never had to face this.

Has his legs improved at all in the splint? I hope someone can advise. (((hugs)))

hi she said no fleece because the wheels will get caught in it and won't move as easily he is 9 months old but I'm not sure he or i will have a long life with all this stress:{

pics of Boris

you can see in his close up pic that his toenails are growing badly the have been trimmed but still don't look good.Does he look uncomfortable to anyone else?

Oh that broke my heart. :( Poor love. He doesn't look to be too upset by it all though does he?

Come on Boris! You have come such a long way. Don't give up! You're absolutely gorgeous and everybody on here is absolutely in love with you! Just be brave for a wee bit longer!

he was bright in those pics but since he has been in the cage he has just sat in the in the corner staring at the wall i just went to hardware store again with my oh(who left work early to help)but no luck, i also called the vets and the vet on call hasn't worked with Boris and said she know's nothing about how to help and said she couldn't get one of his vets to contact us because they aren't on call I'm so :{ the vet who did the cart said not to give him hay because it will get caught in the wheels but i have ignored that advice because i don't think he should go 1 week and 5 days without it.

Oh gawd no you done right they shouldn't go without hay for that length of time. That will mean teeth problems. Cuzzy didn't eat hay for 3 weeks I just had to syringe him and after a week he just got tooth problems.

thanks I'm glad i trusted my instincts on that one,Boris pink foot has no feeling in it now and he won't move it like he was before and it is cold where as his black leg is warm.He is crying but i gave him metacam not that long ago i cant give him more for a while:(

I think it's good you gave him hay. If I was a piggie I would be really unhappy without hay... and that's the last thing you want for gorgeous Boris. You are giving him the best possible care and you can watch him and make sure no hay gets stuck in the wheels.

Peter said put it in a hay rack make it low so he won't make much mess. I admire you for keep fighting for him. Will his back heal in time?

Poor Boris - if he's in constant pain and his leg seems to go dead you will have to contact the vet again. Something can't be right there... Trust your instinct!

But yes, give him hay and food as normal as possible!

My heart goes out to the poor boy!
