Has we all know when guinea pigs get ill they all go down hill fast and so does their weight. I know it may seem over the top for none guinea pig owners. But I have choked all the weights of the guinea pigs on the hutch doors. That way it can be wiped off if needed. :D

This is a great idea Bex, I am a firm advocate of weighing my only concern is if you wipe off the previous weight and write the new weight you won't be able to see a pattern. My pigs have there own pad for weights, and are weighed every week, for example if they lost 10grams on Tuesday, that wouldn't be a problem, but they could have lost 10 gram the last 3 weeks and I may miss it if I didn't have on record all their previous weights.

However weighing your pigs weekly and tracking their weights is a brilliant idea and anybody that doesn't do it should consider starting I find it invaluable, and I can spot illnesses very quickly!

It is a very good idea! I do agree with Flintstones, that tracking their weight enables you to detect a pattern if you are worried or see a general trend (for instance an older piggy losing weight gradually). If you are any good with spreadsheets its really interesting (yes I clearly am that sad!) to log the weights in a spreadsheet and create a graph to easily see a trend, you could do this in addition to the hutch board so when there is a change you canlook at the spreadsheet to get more info? Can be very interesting...on the other it can seem rather OCD but I like it ! :redinbreeding

I write all of my piglets weights in my diary so that I can flick through and see any big fluctuations.

I am rather sad too...I have my piggy charts on the computer, and every time I weigh them I add the date, how much they weigh (in grams) how much they have gained (or lost) and if I have clipped their nails. After a while I print them out and keep them in a folder. I think I'm over the top....but I like my piggies to keep a consistant weight and worry about the little things :...
