You have probably read my recent thread on my Millie passing away this week 8... on Tuesday when it all happened i had to make some tough decisions at the vets which i was struggling with, the vetinary nurses were so lovely, i was in a terrible state in there and they really helped me, even when i collected her the receptionists gave me a big hug... i was thinking about sending them a thankyou card with some Guinea Pigs on with a nice message.

When i got my post today, the vets had sent me a lovely card with a personal hand written message in about Millie.
It really touched me. Is this the norm when animals pass away at the vets as this is the first time i have experienced my pets passing?
xx

I've never heard of that happening before, but that's a lovely thing to do. The staff sound really nice.

When my dog died the vet called us a few days later and she let us know of some good dog breeders . . . which some people might take offense to, but she meant it with good intentions so I thought it was nice of her. :)

I have heard about it once or twice.

My vets don't do it, but the nurses/repceptionists have tacked my own thank you cards with a picture of the piggy that has died on the wall by the reception.

Never had one from the vets...but get them from the lovely people that run the pet crematoriam (sp?)

i also got a personalised hand written message in a card from the vet and her team, she had spent a lot of time with Pepper leading up to him passing and she was the vet on call when i needed him to be pts in the early hours of a Saturday morning, and i know from the very first time i took him there she was smitten anyway, such a lovely gesture, they also witheld the final bill which i find extremely bizarre especially as like i said it was an emergency call out at 430am on a saturday....maybe now i got two more they will just add it on as an extra on my next visit!!

My vets have always sent me a sympathy card when a pet has been put to sleep and I have never been charged for them being put to sleep.

Very sorry to hear you have lost Millie :( Sleep well little girl xx

Your vet sounds very caring indeed, a very nice gesture at such a sad time :)

So sorry about little Millie.

Thankfully I haven't lost a pet for a while, but my vets always sent a bouquet of flowers when it's happened in the past.

That's a lovely gesture. It sounds like some Vets are thoughtful enough to send a card but I imagine that most don't send/do anything. It must be comforting to know that they really care.

We received a beautiful card when both Sully and Duke passed away 8...
I also was given a lovely native hibiscus when Duke passed away, he'd been to the vets so often they just loved him...........

I think it was a beautiful gesture by your vets and the girls in the office, you're very lucky :)

Not such a lovely thing to do . . .

That's a really nice touch. My poor little guinea had to be pts yesterday. It was an out-of hours vet who I'd never been to before. The vet examined Patch, said (very nicely) that she didn't know what was the matter with her, there was nothing she could do, that she might be in pain and that it was best to end it, which I'd already guessed. The vet let me hold Patch whilst she was pts. Obviously I was very upset. They then marched me to reception and presented me with a bill for £104! I don't begrudge Patch a penny of it but it somehow doesn't seem right to charge someone in distress for putting their beloved pet to sleep.

thats such a lovely thing to do, when my Boris passed away after rocky health issues i recieved a beutiful letter from the vets, it actually helped to know they cared x

I'm so sorry for your loss, its heart breaking isnt it? they mean so much to us, at least you were there when she needed you most.
I made them try and drain Millies abscess for a second time even though they said it would **** be best to put her to sleep but you never know she may of been that small percentage of ones that can be saved, i had to try. so when they called to say it was just too bad when they opened her up, she was pts without me, i feel so guilty that i wasnt there but then i would of also felt guilty if we didnt try. Cant stop thinking about it.
xx
