I see these threads and some of you getting new piggies and seeing the photos of my own that I had to give up a few days ago and I am so sad. I love them and I miss the piggies I had :'( Why me? Why did I have to have allergies towards them? 2 days after getting them to Kimmie and cleaning the room they were in and making sure I had most of the dust out of the room, my alleriges completely stopped! Even the 2 spots that came up on me are almost gone. Anytime I would touch any of them to my skin, it would turn red and ichy until I washed my skin where they touched. I just don't get how I am not allergic to other animals but only them. I used to think it was the bedding and tried different ones with no difference. Even my sisters guinea pig does the same thing to me. I just wish I could have them, even if it were just one :(

I don't think I have ever seen a toy piggie, but still, it wouldn't be the same as cuddling with the warm fuzzy ones :(

No, but then you'll have a piggy which you want :)

How about another animal? Not meaning in a way to replace

You could get a rabbit? or a cat ;D

Poor you! I'm so glad I'm not allergic... that totally sucks :(

well, i may be getting a little Kitten, but with my 2 little ones, I can't keep it inside. It will be a few weeks before I would get the kitten though (if we do) We live right by a Highway and the previous cats I owned ended up either leaving or getting killed out here. Thats why I wanted an animal to live in the house.

Well, wouldn't a rabbit require some type of bedding though? I know rabbits can handle wire bottoms....my hubby may not let me get another animal like a piggy again. he will say again "I told you so" >:(

Rabbits can't/shouldn't live on wire bottoms and yes rabbit's would require some type of bedding. Beddings normally used are woodshavings (most commonly used), paper, hay and so on. I advise against using straw, many people I know do and have kept their rabbits on straw but I know of to many things that have happen to rabbits who live on straw such as eye injuries. You could have a house rabbit, they can become very affectionate. :)

i saw someone mention a toy piggy up there i was tempted to get this myself but the real thing is cheaper ;D

www.iwoot.com have them callled gupi the guinea pig

i had a house rabbit he was sooo tame, learnt his name and words like din dins, We used to have a large dog cage/crate, and he had a cat basket to sleep in, and a litter tray, we only closed him in at night time, and ran around the house and garden during the day, they are really easy to house train, they would require some hay though for eating purposes. do you think this would be a good idea for you? You just have to supervise when they are out in the garden because of cats, and maybe very sly foxes.

I totally sympathise with the allergy situation. I got rashes if my boys fur touched anything other than my palms, even the back of my hands. Every time I had them sitting around my neck it got so itchy and red with hot white spots. i can't even touch their hay, if I go near it withought holding my breath it gives me really bad asthma (hubbie has to do the hay!) The itchy thing happens with almost every animal I touch, especially to cats, i can't be in the same room as them.

However with regards to my small furries, I think my system has built up a tolerance, as I no longer suffer as badly as I did several months ago. A similar thing happened when I was younger - I used to love horse rinding but was allergic to the horses and their surroundings. Bit the bullet and went on a residential riding holiday, and it was agony for the first few days as I was constantly exposed to it all, but after 5 days it suddenly stopped! Not sure if it would work for you, but wonder if immersing yourself and putting up with the discomfort for a short while can help build up your tolerance? Do you still have access to the piggies you had to re-home or any one else's?

It's just a thought based on my own personal experience but it may be an idea to try later maybe when you can face it? :)

Awww i knew you were going to take this hard, it's alright love we totally understand your feelings <hugs> i have allergies too and there's times that i could rip my skin off after dealing with Duke but i'm luck it does calm down a bit later, now he's not on hay as much it's much better.
Don't give up it may pass, my dermo told me it's a 7 year cycle for our skin allergies, so we'll cross our paws for you and hope that one day you can be a piggie mummy again. If not try a smaller rabbit, you should speak to Debbie she's got an indoor one, Schmichael and he's just gorgeous :)

Aww, I'm so sorry Dayna. I'll make sure the woman is alright with me giving you her information, because you care so much. It's terrible that you had to have allergies and they wouldn't get better, but I'll make sure they get a good home and you're able to learn information about them whenever you want to.

Kimmie

Just got back on, yesterday was busy. I talked to my hubby and he doesn't want me to get any animal right now for indoor as this summer will be busy for us and he would rather me to wait. We might still get the kitten, but not even sure yet. I had my piggies for a few months before geting them to Kimmie and my allergies didn't slow down a bit. it started out with bad ichy eyes, then that stopped and I thought it was all going to be fine, but then the other mess started. I got allergies so bad that I couldn't hardly talk for 4 days. That was horrible. That happened after I cleaned out the cage. then I got the 2 ringworms which are now gone, and they lasted for 2 weeks. I never had anything like that, but a few days after getting them to Kimmie, its like a brand new me. So I will wait for a while and see how things go before getting anything else.

Kimmie, thanks and I really hope she doesn't mind. :)

Maybe your OH is just trying to let your allergies settle down, sounds like he's trying to take care of you, all the best love :smitten:
Keep in touch please :) :) :)
