I put an ice pod down for my 2 girls today, but they dont seem to know what it is there for? They even walk around it like it is in the way! Do you think they will get to know why it is there?

I hope so because my house gets very hot when there is nice weather. I am hot in here now, so they are probably hot too!

(Btw, I just posted this on the 'how are you cooling your pigs down' thread that someone else started, but nobody seems to be replying - just in case you thought you read this already before :) )

i got ches and maisie a cooling tile from hayexperts. it doesn't feel as cold as the ice pods so they use it more. they like to lick it and walk over it. maisie lay against it once but that's all.

In the US they have a piece of granite for chinchillas you can buy. You just pop it in the freezer for a few minutes and put it in the cage. You can probably use a regular rock or brick.

I use simple bottles of water that I put in the freezer.
Even if they don't go close to them, the bottles cool the tiles.

Tango and Cash do exactly the same thing with theirs, they'll have a little sniff, maybe put a foot on it and then wonder off! mallethead

If I was a pig in this weather I'd be sprawled all over thing!

I hid it under a pile of their blankets in the pigloo yesterday which tricked Tango into have a sit and I think he quite enjoyed it. Cash however is too smart for that and after putting just one foot in the pigloo he shot back out and gave me a right telling off rolleyes

So it is not just my piggies then :)

He gave you a right telling off...haha that made me laugh! :)

Lol I put mine under a blanket and my pig will sit for hours on it but he does not like just the icepod just on its own, I think it's because it feels wet and icky on his tummy

seriously, I've never heard him wheek so loud before!

I used to put a bottle of frozen water in the run with mine and one of them would lick the condensation off the outside. He thought it was his own personal ice lolly.
Now my pigs live indoors which is lovely and cool in hot weather so I don't bother with the ice bottle these days.

My four have ice pods and frozen bottles wrapped in socks. They lay near them but never on them mallethead Still, it gives me piece of mind that they are available if needed

I forgot to mention, when they are out in their run, I spray them with cool water from a spray bottle. I don't spray directly at them but create a fine mist above them. I can't say they like it but it certainly helps to cool them down

The ice pod is being used, FINALLY! :))

This is Floss cooling down...I covered it in a tea towel, I think she liked that better...plus some chooken leg :))

Glad to see your girls are finally enjoying their pods!

I also cover the ice pods in tea towels and my girls spent all of last summer here in the extreme heat of Greece lounging on them day and night.

I had a rotation system going with the freezer (I have 2 ice pods and 2 ice blocks) to replace 2 at a time while the other ones freeze again :(|)
