:laluot_11:hey guys!

well with this oppressive heat wave recently (and low winds) I've been finding my little ladies virtually melted flat on the floor, barely lifting a nostril to the curious world around them.. so to alleviate their groggy malaise I froze some kale, broke a little off and offered it to them.. well within moments they were up and about, looking really quite refreshed!

Has anyone else tried freezing their greens? Would anyone advise against it? I was cautious about guineapig brain freeze or toothache. I figured the Kale would defrost pretty quickly being a leaf.. unlike anything thicker like carrot.

Aww pants. mallethead

well I did buy the Kale fresh, but froze it myself for a veggie soup because there was just so much! I understand about frozen veggies breeding more bacteria on defrosting... the vegetables are more wet than they would be otherwise and bacteria need moisture to grow on as a medium. But in the frozen state bacteria cannot grow. Veg bought frozen in a shop is different to veg frozen at home in that it has probably partially defrosted at least twice before it got to your freezer!

As for nutrient loss, I imagine the degredation is over time - weeks and months. My kale has been frozen 3 days so I don't think the quality is obscenely reduced.

I'm going to plump that my geeps were ok on this one occasion. But no more frozen veg pops for them!

Thanks for helping out! -c
