my female guinea is due very soon, and i have a c&c cage for my ladies, but i know it is unsafe for the young ones to be in it. SO i need ideas on what kind of cage to settle them in until they're ready? i am not sure if this should be in this thread or the pregnancy one but i need advice. anyone? thanks(:

You can overlap the grids to make the spacing between the bars smaller, or you could put a cardboard or extra piece of correx/coroplast between the bars and the correx/coroplast tray to make the wall taller. The only danger of C&C cages for babies is the spacing between the bars are too large. If you block off the bars, or overlap the grids to make the spacing smaller, you can keep babies in the C&C.

I don't know if ribbons would be strong enough. Determined piggies might be able to squeeze through.

You can try to put corex on the grids or overlap them, Maybe you could also set up a play pen and let her stay in there?

I would suggest making the walls of correx 12 inches high instead of the standard 6. They shouldn't be exposed to the grids then.
When they grow older you can then lower the height of the correx walls.

Does your C&C already have coroplast tray?

This pic shows how to babyproof with cardboard. You can wedge cardboard between the coroplast tray and the grids.

If you have leftover coroplast, you can do the same with the pic above, just change cardboard to coroplast.

This pic shows you how the overlapped grids will look.

Close up of overlapped grids and where to tie them.

i just have trouble making the sides so it's like a box almost? might sound silly . folding up the sides

Don't make the same mistake as me, you need to measure from the INSIDE of the connector to the other connector, then take off a small amount. Or the box will be too big like I did. Once you've measured the width and length, you have to add the height of the correx you want to each side. Like below. All of the lines should be scored bar last photo.

Each of these (down) should have 1 cut in each corner... Turn the correx over. Then use some clothes pegs to once you've held the shape of the box together, you can use cellotape to secure.

I think your best bet is with @lissie idea. If you double up the grids then you can still see the pigs inside. Where as if you higher the correx walls, you cannot see them as well, and they cannot see out.
