ideas for takin metacam?

my girl ginger was great at taking her metacam. She would lick her 5 drops straight from my fingers. She is now refusing to take it! If i measure out 5 drops with water is this ok or will it make the dose weaker? If ** piggies have ever been on metacam how did * get them to take it. She is off her food so can't even drop it on food. I'm going to buy a melon cause usually this never fails but in the meantime what do * suggest? X

I just syringe straight into there mouth, I put the syringe in the side and hey presto no choice! Just be careful not to Aspirate her.

If any of my girls are having this I always mix with the antibiotics (if they're having any) or mix with water. One time the vet suggested fruit juice to make it easier to give.

Yes i do the same.......... i use a clean and sterilised spoon.......drop onto it what i require and then suck into syringe.........the pop into side of the piggies mouth...............Flinstones is VERY experienced in doing this too

a little tip sometimes meds can be hard to suck from the spoon i often put a couple of drops of water on the spoon first .....only a couple otherwise it makes it too much to suck up and syringe later ......... then suck it all up and syringe feed to piggie x

I now have my own method that works for me. I place the pig on my lap restrain his or her head. Lift up the side lip and place the syringe in behind the front teeth. I normally syringe 0.2mls at a time.

Caution : Always put the syringe in from the side, if to much pressure is put on the syringe there is the possibility of Aspirating your Guinea Pig if it is syringed straight on.

Thanks, that's really helpful. Been having trouble with my piggy he's on metacam and baitril. Any tips on how to hold piggy with broken back leg and give meds at the same time? It's been a bit tricky as he hates me giving it and tries to wriggle away but i'm worried about hurting him.
