piggy

Had Gus at the vets for more antib's yesterday and I have never felt so uncomfortable. It was quite busy when in came a man with his daughter and guinea pig. He goes up to the desk and I think he was paying a bill for piggy before going in again. The receptionist says That's £201 please and the waiting room erupted with laughter ? ? Someone said 'What for a guinea pig, just open the bloody door and let it go! >:( >:( >:( The person sitting beside me,her dog start sniffing Gus's carry case and she said 'Wonder if that's a guinea pig too, ha, ha! I really felt quite intimidated. It doesn't matter what the animal is if it requires veterinary treatment it has the right to get it no matter what the cost and it's really no one elses business either. How dare they laugh at someone getting help for their animal. How would they feel if I said that about their cats and dogs? >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I agree! That pig ment just as much to that girl as the cats and dogs did to the other people. Bet your blood was boiling :tickedoff:

very true, its horrible sometimes i feel like that taking my guinea down to the vets.. but they are just like your dog or cat really, you care just as much even if the animal is big or small whether it lives 2 years or 10 years! ignore them.. its their loss that they havent experienced the lovely nature of guinea pigs :)

I would of turned around and said 'yes it is a guinea pig' See the reaction then! Oh some people really annoy me, all animals are precious. Cuzzy cost me around £50 before we lost him but we had to give him a chance of survivial, what sort of person wouldn't try to help at least!

People like this aren't fit to have animals! :tickedoff:

Here here I couldn't agree more. People like that make my blood boil :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

I was thinking what if a Lion went into a vet (ok I know not likely but here me out...lol) and laughed at those with cats and dogs, it's the same principal. If it lives and breathes it has a right to life and a right to be treated by a vet if need be.

£201 for 1 Guinea Pig though, poor thing must have had a bad problem. :(

Not really, my skinny Cari needed an emergency c sec that cost me £170

When we rushed Scampy to the emergency vet and subsequently lost him that day, they charged us a small fortune, but we didn't think twice about paying it. We were absolutely in bits as well, with red tearstained faces etc. I would have been even more devastated if someone had made a remark like that. If I ever hear anyone say why bother with a guinea next time I'm in the vets I will not hesitate to say why bother with your dog/cat, I love my piggie as much as you love your animal, and they deserve what I'm about to pay, so how dare you!

Got me riled up just thinking about those people! :tickedoff:

I wouldn't hesitate but speak my mind. I guess overtime I'll get to know what vet fees cost. Cost doesn't matter to me though, as long as the pig is cared for. :)

Well, I'm not usually a confrontational person, but I really don't think I could sit by and let comments like that be made, whether its aimed at me and Marty with our guinea or some guy and his kid with theirs. Good on them for taking the pig to the vets rather than letting it suffer.

They are still considered by some as 'throwaway pets'. Some people consider them to be possesions. and not real, living, breathing creatures. Its heartbreaking.

My Dad has a similar attitude (I hate him for it). When Graham (my pig with renal failure) died earlier this year, I happily paid the huge vets bills, because even though I'd lost him, it was worth that money trying to do the best for him. My Dad said 'I don't know why you did it, I would have just got a new one'. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: I shouted at him for hours! They are not toys! They are animals!

i cant belive some people talk about any animals like that its really sad that some people are really that thick :'( :'(

i dont understand why people think dogs, cats and the larger pets are more important :tickedoff:

but what if they went in with 2 and came away with 1 and the bill some people are so insensitive. I some times wish the receptionists wouldnt publicise the cost for any pet

Same here, I couldn't keep my mouth shut and it would have gone along the lines of... "what the <expletive deleted> do you think you're talking about?"

Last time I checked it was a legal requirement to get ANY animal seen by a vet if they're unwell, be it a dog or a mouse.

Similarly, it annoys me how people have vet money to spend on their dogs and cats but suddenly "can't afford to spend £200 on a guinea pig".

When I took Tic to the vet people laughed at me :-\ I just ignored them though but it soo annoyed me :tickedoff: (I would have said something if I wasn't with my nannan). When I took Beauty people were quite interested in them, a lady was talking to me about how she had guinea pigs when she was younger and they loved cucumber lol...they all seemed interested in a good way though which was a nice surprise :)

Wonder what they would they would have said if I had turned round and said 'Well that's nothing my guinea pig has had £500 worth of treatment so far' That really would have given them something to talk about! It went on my credit card and yes will take forever to pay off but I don't care I've given him the chance to have a pain free life for however long that may be. So :P to all the morons at the vets.

>:( >:( >:( >:( moron :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

I agree it must of been a very sick piggie to have cost that much, i do hope it's ok now :-\ :-\

Oh love probably just as well you didn't say anything as you might've really let rip :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: and lets face it that moron is just not worth speaking to, they've probably no heart or soul >:( not like you who adores your piggies and loves animals :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I'm glad no ones said anything like that to me, people are always having a,look and commenting on the cutness of my buns or jessiewhen she went, if i spoke up i'd never stop.

People could pay £400 for a dog and it could go into hundreds or thousends of pounds in it's life, why don't they just purchase a new dog then, people get me so angry :tickedoff:
