I think I have the bug :p

I know I can't add to my pair of boars, but if i were to get another group can they be in the same room? If all were boars could they meet at playtime? (I'm guessing no!)

If I had a male cage and a female cage can they be in the same room?

You could keep another pair of boars in the same room but not have them meet during playtime as this would be extremely stressful for them as they would start trying to sort out the hierarchy each time they meet and this could result in fights ruining what was a good bond.

I believe you also have to be careful of bonded boars being able to smell sow pheromones as that can cause them to fight and fall out. I don't know if it's possible to have both in the same room. Perhaps someone who had kept bonded boars and sow groups will be along to answer this one better

You can have as many boar groups in a room as you want, but they should not mingle. Playtime with other groups is not playtime for guinea pigs, it is always bonding time. ;)

If you want sows or sows/neutered boar combos, then please keep them ideally in another room, at the other end of the same room or below a boar cage, but never within eyesight or reach of sow pheromones. A strong sow season can really upset even well bonded adult boar pairs (and no, neutering the boars won't change that!)
Boars that grow up with sows in the same room while they are still babies are not quite as affected as when you introduce sows into an established room; especially when you have teenage boys with testosterone at an all time high. Some boars are more affected than others.

If you have different genders, always handle, feed, clean and roam your boars before sows and use different flooring if they have to time share a roaming run (ideally not).

Here is our new guide about what works and what not: Adding More Guinea Pigs Or Merging Pairs – What Works And What Not?

I have 2 pairs of boars in the same room. They don't seem bothered and my original boars seem happier to have other boars in the room, as they are wheeking again. I don't let them meet up though as this would cause unnecessary stress and you could end up with 4 single boars.

I had a bad experience with sows in the same room as I was fostering 2 baby sows and I firstly put them in the piggy room at a lower height than the boys cage. The boys within minutes started chattering at each other and then started lunging at each other. A fight was imminent. So I removed the girls to another room and almost instantly the boys stopped fighting/bickering.

I have 2 pairs of boars living in the same room. One pair live on a table above the others. When the upstairs pair have floor time they can see and chat to the others through the bars. All 4 boars are fairly laid back characters and take an interest in hearing and seeing each other. I did have an accidental meeting once when Willow demolished part of the C&C cage (I'd not assembled properly) and he and Bracken escaped. I got away with it that time they were quite happy together but weren't together long, I wouldn't deliberately let that happen.

I thinik ill stick to my two for now then, when i move house i want them to have the full roam of the loounge ideally

my two boars are neutered and living with their wives but the other morning when I was busy cleaning one area I glanced up and thought I was seeing double as there was two ginger boys in with the youngsters!
Don't know How it happened unless Oscar had jumped over as he is the more athletic one!
It was the chirring I think that had alerted my subconscious that something was going on!
I'd to leap over and remove Oscar before any trouble started!

I must be the lucky one, I had a split C&C boys in one end girls in the other.
Eventually I had the boys done then after 6 weeks I spilt them & put them each with a female.
Listen to Wiebke though she has a mountain of knowledge
