Hi,
My guinea pig is 5 years old next week, he's never been interested in hay and hasnt eaten it when it's been given to him.
He had a brother who used to eat the hay so I thought if would have learned to eat it from him but he never did.
IV tried him on different types of hay but he just doesn't eat any of it.
I read online to cut back on treats to see if he shows interest in the hay but that hasn't helped either.
He is loosing quite alot of weight recently and IV been in and out of the vets with him who thinks it's just his ages because there's nothing wrong with him. His teeth have been checked and his had loads of tests done which have showed nothing wrong with him.

Basically I'm asking, what can I be feeding him that will make him put on weight? He eats nuggets and has vegetables but he's still loosing weight. How do I get him to eat the hay?

@guinea-iggg Being in Northampton you are in the PERFECT place to see the best vets! Please book your pig in to see Simon Maddock, or Kim Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic. They seriously are the best piggy vets around.

Most vets aren't as experienced with piggy teeth so he may have a problem that hasn't been noticed. Simon or Kim will find it.

Hay won't make him put on weight. Pellets make them put on weight so if he's losing weight whilst eating them then there's definitely an issue. He could have teeth problems and so can't eat. Or he might have a digestive issue which is affecting his absorption.

Please book him in at the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic 01604 478888
