Iggy has been showing signs of discomfort again, his poos and wees are healthy and plenty.

I checked his bits tonight and I think he abscess has returned, it's the same smell again and I cleaned some gunk from his bottom (pictured below).

Unfortunately I'm not off now til Wednesday so I'll be booking him in for a morning appointment, he doesn't appear to be in pain and is still eating so I hope this will be okay for him. If he's showing any signs of pain I'll be getting him there sooner.

Does it sound like the abscess is back? I'm really upset that he's taken a leap backwards :(

An abscess can return. Have you got anybody else who can take him sooner? The sooner he can go on strong antibiotics, the better.

Unfortunately I've only got my mum as a last resort as she's disabled. I also need to have a proper talk to my vet about antibiotics as I don't feel that baytril will suffice, I want this to be nipped in the bud.

Could you provide me with a list of piggy safe antibiotics I can suggest for my visit? I want to be prepared as much as I can :)

Oh dear! The both of you went through a horrible time last time! At least you recognise it for what it is and can get it treated straight away!

I know right! It's a massive slap in the face to be honest, I thought we'd seen the last of it

Yes at least this time I have him here with me and can look after him from the start. Guess I need to get used to being bitten again :))

Perhaps try flushing with a week iodine solution

My vet gave me some sticks impregnated with a simular solution but l don't know we're to get them or what they are called

Thanks, will that be okay in his bottom?

Hugs to you and Iggy. So sorry you are having this worry again.

Thank you, we appreciate it! :) x

The most effective antibiotic against abscess is Zithromax, which is used by Simon Maddock (who deals with lots of abscesses due to dental issues). Marbocyl is a stronger form of Baytril, which can be used in combination with zithromax in really bad cases.
Here are his contacts if your vet wants to talk to him before prescribing: The Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic

@furryfriends (TEAS) is our abscess queen.

The Guinea Lynx list is very limited, it only contains bactrim (i.e UK septrin), baytril, doxycycline (US brand used for URIs).

Thank you so much, I'll show this to my vet when I see her. I hope she can contact Simon, it would really help to expand the choices we have in the future!
