Sadly my guinea pig Candy has fallen ill. I noticed that she was wheezing and sneezing so got her to the vets right away. The wheezing had stopped after an hour but I took her anyway. She was given antibiotics on a seven day course.

Do i need to keep her seperate for the whole of her course? or can i put her back after a few days? I do not want to stress her more than i have to.

Do antibiotics have side effects as i have noticed an increase in the amount of poops she does?

Thanks :)

We have not had to separate when one of our piggies have a URI.

Which Anti-biotic is she on? Antibiotics especially Baytril can be harsh on their tummies and affect their appetite... It can be a good idea to give a probiotic such as Avi-pro Plus http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-suppleme...probiotic-products-c-5_172/avipro-plus-p-1225 this can be sprinkled on their food or syringe with some water, it is best given a few hours after the anti-biotic.

If you haven't got an pro-biotic you can give poo-soup, this is the poo of a healthy piggie mushed up with a bit of water, and syringe them this. It sounds yuk but piggies love it and again it will help the good bacteria in their tummy.

Please weigh your piggie everyday while they are ill so you can keep an eye on how much they are eating. hope Candy feels better soon x
