One of my 9week old guinea pigs (fluffy) has not been eating very much and has diarrhea round her bum. She is not going near my other guinea pig (grace) and she has been sitting in the corner silently. She doesn't get excited when I put food or hay in the cage. And she doesn't run away when I touch her like she usually does.

Please see a vet ASAP! This counts as an emergency!

Take her off any fresh food and start syringe feeding and watering her asap. Ask the vet for herbivore recovery formula powder, but until then you can use mushed up pellets. Make sure that you little girl has swallowed her previous lots before you add more. At her small size that is about 1/5 - 1/4 quarter of a small syringe full. It is vital to keep the guts going. More step-by-step illustrated information in our very detailed how-to guide for beginners.

Thanks for the advice, sadly she passed away minutes after I posted this thread. I'm heartbroken :bye:

BIG HUGS

I am ever so sorry! Guinea pigs can go downhill frighteningly quickly, especially babies whose immune system is still under construction. Please have the companion vet checked, to make sure that she is OK and that it is not something infective. :(

You are welcome to post a tribute in our Rainbow Bridge section if or whenever it feels right for you and you would like to leave a little memorial.

Here is what you can do for her companion. Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig
If you have good rescues within your reach (the links for recommended rescues in several countries are in the guide), contact any you can get to for another sow or neutered boar of any age. All of our recommended rescues practice a quarantine/medical treatment and only rehome healthy, properly sexed and guaranteed not pregnant piggies. Most also offer bonding at the rescue, so you are guaranteed to come home with a new mate only if acceptance has happened.

Which UK county, US or Aus state or Canadian province are you in? Could you please add it to your details as your village name means nothing to me or the vast majority our members, which come from all corners of the world.
