I don't have a clue but here is what she said to me.

"Have you ever had a piggy with a drinking problem? Water is getting very dirty in bottle. He is all wet under the chin and is losing some of the wet fur"

Any ideas please?

Suzanne

Keep the bottle filled with clean water, besides checking his teeth!
Check the spout on the bottle.

The dirty water thing is relatively normal, you just have to scrub the bottle and spout clean daily.

It could be a simple case of him playing with the water. My Franklyn is terrible for this; he'll spit all his food up the spout and into the bottle while letting the water run out of his mouth...he's been known to drain the bottle in a day, just by playing with the water.

If the chin gets wet enough, the hair will come out. Determining the cause of the wetness is the important thing here; your friend needs to consider if the pig could be dribbling (which would indicate a dental or oral problem) or he could just be spilling the water down his front as he drinks.

As previous posts have mentioned wetness around mouth can indicate teeth problems. Has your friend noticed any weight loss or problems the guinea may have eating?
