She seemed a bit puffed up in her cage so I picked her up and she's sat on my lap a bit hunched up and shivery (I don't think it's cold shivery, she just vibrating, short bursts so doesn't seem happy), but I can't see anything immediately wrong with her. I might have to pop her to the vets if she doesn't pick up :(

I put her back in the cage and she went straight to the hay and started munching, so that's good. I'll keep an eye on her for now. I think I may just be paranoid :{ Hopefully it's nothing to worry about. She also peed and pooed on me as always when I get her out rolleyes so I'm not worried about that :))

It's really good that you know her! keep that eagle eye on her and if in doubt........straight to vets!

Come on little LEXI XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I'm not happy with the way she looks. She's been out to eat a bit of hay and drink, but she's just huddled up in her box all puffed up so I've booked an appointment to see the vets this evening. Hopefully there's nothing wrong and I am just being paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I've just come back from my physio appointment and she looks happier and is pottering around and eating. I'm still going to take her to the appointment as you never know...pigs are good at hiding illness :) but I'm glad she seems a bit more lively even if she is still puffed up :(

Just got back from the vets and I'm glad I went as, while the vet was feeling her abdomen she peed on the table and there was loads of blood in it. Poor girl has cystitis so she's had 2 injections and is on a weeks course of baytril starting tomorrow. Hopefully that should clear it up cos I go away for about 2 weeks after next week so will have to leave the OH in charge :{ :))

Aww poor baby. At least she is being treated for it now. It usually goes with two weeks of treatment. I hope she gets better soon.

Oh...the vet said to take her back if she's still poorly after the treatment so I'll get the OH on the look out after I've left. Don't want to go now but I've promised my parents so should do really. She's on 0.4ml daily...does that sound about right? I'll have to see how she's goes on it and if it doesn't clear up within the week we'll take her back.

Lexi hasn't touched any food (other than a couple of strands of hay) today so I'm off to get a syringe. Hopefully I can tempt her into having a munch. Is there any thing I can do to make her more comfortable? She's just lying in her hay loft looking sad. Luckily she has her husboar by her side keeping an eye on her :)

Did the vet give her any meta cam for pain relief? Also baytril is notorious for upsetting guts, so a probiotic would be a good idea. If you're worried or she's not pooping or eating, ask the vet abt zan tac which is is a gut stimulant. 0.4ml as a meta cam dose sounds right for a pig around the 1kg mark.

No they didn't give me metacam. They did inject her with something called Ketofen, which I haven't heard of before but I assume it's some sort of pain relief. Is it worth me asking for some metacam? I have some probiotics, so will give her some with her food. Thanks :)

Probiotics powder diluted in water? P@H stock some, works wonders on my piggies when they're off colour :)

Yeah I have some of the P@H one. I usually sprinkle it on a bit of pepper and it goes down quite nicely :).

Aww poor baby not feeling up to eating. I use a probiotic called fiberplex. I inject it into a slice of cucumber for Peronel to eat.

Poor girl's is still feeling very sorry for herself. I'm struggling to get more than 10 mls of food syringed into her and she's fighting it all the way. Was keen on her veg which is a good sign, but she won't leave her box other than to eat veg. I keep seeing her pick up strands of hay, but I think she's just making a nest rather than eating it. I'm thinking I might go back to the vets on Monday and get some pain relief as she is sore bless her.

I now have a poorly cat her too (my sister's has come to stay) so trying to get her to eat some chicken as well which isn't going down too well :{

I'm getting worried about Lexi though. I've never seen her like this, she's always been the greedy, dominant one. Now she just sulks all day, not that I can blame her really :(. I hope she perks up soon. I just need to keep getting food into her.

I can understand why your worried. She does sound very poorly, poor thing. They do not usually give a pain killer as well as antibiotic. I am wondering if it is something else. Could it be a kidney stone? If they are sure it is a bladder infection then I hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

They didn't suggest kidney or bladder stones, but I'm not sure the woman I saw was very clued up on gp's. I'll ask for the exotics vet next time and if she doesn't pick up soon I'll take her back and ask for a x-ray.

Oh dear. It is a worry when you have a vet that does not understand guinea pigs. I only wondered if it was something else as you would think Lexi should be responding to the medication by now.

She's only had 2 doses so far, so I'll see what she's like on Monday and if she hasn't started to pick up then I'll take her back. She seems quite happy and interested in her surroundings when I get her out, just not when she's in the cage. She'll just lie in her box until she's thirsty or I get her out to feed her again. As she isn't all that interested in the food I'm assuming she's still munching on bits of hay, but I don't know. I don't really have a way to separate her from the others to find out either. She's just come out and is nibbling on some hay now as I said that, so that's good. At least it's something to keep her guts moving. I'll keep syringing her little and often to keep her topped up :)) and will keep a close eye on her today.

It is really good she is eating hay. Maybe when she is on your lap you can offer her hay too as that can help to encourage her.

I mean sometimes guinea pigs vibrate if they are scared and feel threatened so it's not always a bad thing for those of you that are worrying but obviously still look out for your piggie just in case it is an illness. Regular check ups at the vet are a part of preventation to further growing of the illness :)

Don't give up love, keep syringe feeding and offering little tid bits of her fav foods, try grating or cutting into long strips too.

COME ON LEXI EAT UP BABY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Sorry to hear about the puss too.......healing meowwwwwwwwwws XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Just an update...
Lexi seems a lot better today. She's munching on hay and doesn't seem to have any visible blood in her urine. It's still a bit painful when she urinates, but things seem to be on the up now.

Thanks for all your support!

P.S. Glynis...***** cat was fine too. Had a couple of injections, but hasn't vomited since :) She's just chasing flies round the house at the moment ?/ :))
