Hi,

This morning I put my guinea pig Pip out in his run. I'd just put his hay manger on the side of the pen, and he began eating.

I noticed after like half a minute, he started making these deep grunting noises. And he's still doing it now, it happens when he is still as well.

It's very deep and the noise makes you cringe a little because it sounds quite bad. He has been squeking as well, but just in a normal manner as he always does.

What do you think is wrong with him?

I'm not sure....maybe he's grunting at his food to tell it how yummy it is?

Does he seem ok within himself?
x

He's making weird noises and keeps opening his mouth wide....

Not yet but I will do as soon as I clean him out... thanks Kira :)

I'm quite sure both or at least Leo did this, I think they get a bit of hay stuck in their throat or something, check his teeth back and front =] I think Africa did it because it went down his throat before he swallowed lol

Does he heave his body forwards when he does it, or is it more like a "throat clearing" cough and no movement? It's quite normal for pigs to get a bit of food slightly stuck; try and encourage him to drink some water and see how he gets on eating a bit of carrot. Also check his incisors - quite often I find pigs are bothered by a piece of hay stuck between the upper incisors!
