I'm A New Owner And I Need Help!

I got Benji about a month ago
Hes seemed fine all day (its 10:02pm now). i gave him his regular 8pm veggie snack and play and he was fine, weeking and popcorning :) but now hes in his cage and hes making occasional "hooting" noises. i thought he may be choking on his food. he goes back to wheeking for a bit.
 
also he is continuing to munch on his timothy hay and pellets as i type this

If he's still munching on hay and pellets then I wouldn't worry too much and keep an eye on him. If he continues to hoot, I'd consider getting him checked out just to be safe.
My boys make some funny noises. Usually they are just muttering away to themselves or deep in piggy discussions. Walter makes a hoot like noise when he's messing around in his hay box, they're like happy noises.
Is Benji doing anything in particular while making the noise?

When he first made it, it was while he was eating hay. then he stopped making the noise after a minute or so. 10 minutes after that he started again while he was in his hut. i took him out and held him and he ended up making a coughing noise and then was silent so i placed him back in. hes currently not making any noise just quietly in his hut

It sounds like he's discovering his different happy noises. Just keep an eye on him and if he seems 'off' have a vet give him a check up to make sure. :)
 
If your seriously concerned you should take him to your vet but it could just be a noise he makes no one guinea pig is the same so who knows might just be one of his various sounds, good luck with Benji
 
Hi! If he is still hooting this morning, please have him seen by a vet. it could be the beginnings of a respiratory infection.
 
Good morning everyone! i have good news, Benji isnt making the noise anymore and i also chatted with a local vet and he told me that because hes young he could just be learning all the noises he can make, and that if he doesnt have and wheezing noises while he breathes its probably not a respiratory infection.
