I'm in total panic. I have rehomed 2 baby piggies and are living indoors with me. It has been so nice having piggies in my home and giving them loads of attention. I have outdoor piggies too but these in my home are babies.
Anyway husband has been working away so not been at home. He has been back a week and i think he has an allergy 8...
Runny nose
Itchy etes , sneezing
Anybody got any advice
Do you think it could be the hay rather than the piggies ?
Could i use readigrass instead of hay just to see if it makes a difference?
What am i going to do. They are my babies , i dont want to rehome them and i cant put them outside as they are only 10 weeks.
As i said I'm devastated ! Anybody have any experience with this situation ?

Really sorry to hear this, it wasn't long ago where I was having serious reactions and my eyes were swollen for over a month, I was convinced it was them, I gave them lice treatment, I washed everything, changed the hay etc but then found it was my contacts but in that time, I found some anti histamine eye drops in the chemist, they may help him.

It is just the process of elimination now, get a better quality hay, get rid of woodshavings if you have them etc.

What room do you have them in? Maybe put them in a room he doesn't frequent much...there is hope!

Hiya - I'm in Cardiff too :):)

I would try anti hystamine first and in the meantime go from hay to redigrass - some people only use that. See if it makes a difference.

Where in Cardiff are you if you don't mind my asking? I'm Whitchurch.

OH also where are they being kept? If the hay thing doesn't work then maybe try a different room that he doesn't use.

Does he normally work away? If he does you could move them back to where they were before when he's away?

Try piriton tablets to ease your hubby's symptoms.

HI I'm in Gwaelod Y Garth near Taffs well :)p
Know whitchurch very well , got relatives there lol
I'm gonna get some readigrass 2moro and some piriton for him. They are downstairs in living room at the moment. May have to move them to my sons bedroom. We dont have another room downstairs for them to go , its all a bit open plan.
He isnt working away much over the next few months so will have to sort something. Just keep chanting...
It must be the hay , it must be the hay

I would go with the rehoming hubby idea:(|):(|) Maybe he just has a bad cold! Hope the piriton helps..:))

AHH Just up the road then, I was very tempted by there when we were moving but settled close to my mum in the end. Nice area.

Hope the hay and piriton work for your husband and you get to keep your babies in with you. What are they like? Got any photos of them?

You've had some great advice I hope something works but if all else fails I'd definately go with rehoming the hubby ;) good luck hun .

I've known this to happen in the past. Advice I usually give is to bed piggies on newspaper with fleece blankets or towels on top which can be washed frequently. Try not to use woodshavings etc. Use readigras (as already suggested) and get a soft brush and brush your piggies every day to remove dust and lose hair - not anywhere near hubby of course! It's sometimes the 'dander' from the animals that causes problems so keeping them well groomed and the cage dust free should help.

If all this dosen't work ........................... then you can rehome hubby :))

Thanks everyone for advice. I DO HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT FOR ME AND PIGGIES. Ive changed over to newspaper 2nite.
Will post pics of them when hubby shows me how. You see i cant rehome hubby as I'm a computer novice. So need him for piggy pics ! :))

My OH is also allergic so I make sure the door to the pigroom is always closed, frequent clean outs and I always change my clothes if I've had a cuddle. Cetrizine Hydrochloride seems to be the most effective antihistamine for my OH - I think this is piriton.

P.S. Would rehome hubby but unfortunately he pays the mortgage....

The latest is ive changed over to readigrass , newspaper and carefresh . Been changing cage everyday. He seems a bit better . Nose not runny just a bit sniffy. So hoping it was the hay. Only time will tell. But there is piriton on standby in the cupboard just in case.
