Well I gave fleece a go again and thought it would work out but it hasn't...

Last time I tried they burrowed under it so I got lots of bulldog clips and 2 litter trays because my fleeces aren't big enough to cover the length of the cage. The litter trays were put on top of the open end so they wouldn't find it and burrow. For a week it worked great-until today... I don't know how but they made the litter trays slide out of the way and they were all underneath the fleece. Trouble is they squabble under there-it's awful.

They are now back on hay and newspaper and they love it-burrowing through the hay. I have a bad back so to be honest I won't miss the shaking out, washing, clipping it on and changing it every other day. I was also poop picking everyday because fleece shows poops up more. With hay and newspaper I simply fold it all up and re do so perhaps it's for the best.

I know what you mean, it's to for everyone.

Well you can't say you didn't give it a whirl. Gave the piggles a bit of a change which is always welcome.

I think you have to do whats right for you, Ive tried everything with mine. I didnt get on with fleece at all! And I found that hay & newspaper smelt awful :{ so mine are on puppy pads & sawdust again :))

Aymsmom, I think you should dowhat is right for you and if you aren't happy it just niggles away. It doesn't suit everyone and with a bad back leaning in must be a nightmare. The piggies will be happy either way.

yeah * hate fleece too I'm a newspaper wood shavings and hay girl lol

To be honest I think it's much more natural for Piggys to do their toilet business on hay. For mine I think fleece was just too neat for them-they seem to love burrowing around in mess!

They have got snuggle sacks and a small piece of fleece so it's the best of both worlds :)

Today i have a question which is that you know those like blankets that are like no sew are whatever... well I'm pretty sure i'm allergic to them! However, my sister says that fleece is just the way it's weaved? There are super cute clogs that have fleece lining.... so what's the deal?

I had mine on fleece for months, but I just couldn't cope with having to poo pick everyday and having to clean out so often because it smelt. So now they are on a layer of easibed (wood chip) with Medi-bed (very finely chopped straw) on the top. They seem to love it and it smells great!

Nope, I couldn't do with that. Machu always burrows under things if he gets the chance. (He's been known to get under the newspaper and hay that I use in their forage tray.) I make fitted liners like this tutorial shows though, and they're perfect for the downstairs level of the cage. No burrowing, and I just use the vac tube to spot clean so I don't have to muck about with daily shaking etc. I couldn't do it like you're on about, I don't think, so I sympathise!

different things definitely suit different people and different piggies! I got on well with fleece right away but i don.t have correx on the lower part of my cage so the fleece edge is outside the cage and no way could the pigs burrow. When i put my hayloft on, i found out i don.t have burrowing pigs! At the moment i have packed it out with hay on top of carefresh. The piggies only really go up there to eat hay and come back down to the fleece to sleep. I already don.t really like the hay/carefresh as much because they do wee and poop all over the hay and i can.t see where exactly they've been and what.s ok for eating. I have a brown fleece with paw prints which doesn.t show up the poop but it.s easy to brush. I.ve now got some puppy pads to try with hay in the hayloft. And i also got a small fleece from poundstretcher yesterday just in case i want to do puppy pads and fleece in the hayloft too. But then it won't really be a hayloft at all!

Well I think I was just making things harder for myself with the fleece-especially given that I have a lot of back pain and could be facing more surgery :(

I think to enjoy your Piggys you have to pick the method of bedding that's right for you or it just takes the enjoyment away-especially for me as it was making my pain worse.

Yesterday I bought them a wooden log cabin and put hay in there so they can get snug in there plus there's their sacks and a small piece of fleece which someone always gets under :)

I have a litter tray lined with newspaper and a sprinkling of wood shavings with hay on top which is emptied everyday so i know they have fresh hay. They do eat a lot of the hay around the cage too so that's refreshed everyday too.

I made mine like these & they're great :)) When the piggies had mange mites from boarding in July I kept them on newspaper & hay whilst waiting for the treatment to work & it did make cleaning out so much easier so I completely understand where you're coming from. They did get quite sniffy though as they lay on damp patches & although it is a pain I have now got them back on fleece again, as my fleece sides go over the correx like the liners in that thread so the piggies can't bury underneath rolleyes

Having bad back problems myself though I know exactly what it's like so you have to do what it most comfortable for you, it doesn't matter what you bed them on as long as it's easy for you to clean regularly. :)

Absolutely. I can totally sympathise with that. Back pain is misery and i am so lucky in having only suffered it to any debilitating degree during pregnancy. I only suffer these days if i don.t keep my weight down. The threat of it returning is enough to keep me from nibbling! So yes - different strokes for different folks as they say

Unfortunately it's having zero fat on my back that's causing my problems :(

I have two titanium rods and 28 screws all the way down my spine which were put there to hold my spine straight while it fused. It looks like I'm going to have to have it all removed because its rubbing when I move-no fat to cushion it, it's a shame I can't have some fat injected from elsewhere into my back. rolleyes

ouch that does sound very serious and sore. Hope you can manage to get a cage set up that works well for you x

My piggie is on Aspen bedding and he loves it! I never tried fleece because people say you have to change it every 3 or 4 days. The Aspen bedding smells nice for at least a week.
