From a young age I have loved degu's but was never allowed one. I then found out about the wonderful addictive world of piggies instead and ended up with my two when I bought my own house.

I went to pets @ home yesterday to buy some guinea food and they had two degus up for adoption and they were so cute about 6 months old and owners couldn't look after them anymore! I really wanted to rescue them but I don't have the space for another big cage.

Realistically if I could have anything else it would be another couple of piggies for george and tiger to bond with. This will have to wait until I come up with a plan of how to make more space!

Bascially I just hope I am doing the right thing by not rescuing them as someone with more space would be able to look after them better! I just hope they aren't left there for ages with no family to love, think I am going to have to avoid the place as long as possible as I will be sad everytime I see them! :(

Also forgot to mention that the cage they were in although seemed an adequate size was rammed full of toys etc.. which must have come with them it was so cramped almost as if the people put all the toys in to transport them and the petshop just left them all in there and didn't bother to take some out!

yes I am hoping so. Will wait a few weeks and go back hoping to see a space where they were! I hate seeing anything up for adoption or at rescues as want them all :(

Me too - I have to stop myself going to them now because I get so upset 8...

I usually don't go anymore but the boys love p@h nuggets and they have nearly run out. I got the 3 for 2 which is great except they get through about 60 gms per day between them and I now have 12kgs of the stuff! it'll last about 6 months I rekon but then at least I won't see any adoptees for a bit as they don't have hay from there as it is rubbish and pricey!

Everytime I go into pets at Home I say to myself 'I'm in here to buy food nothing else' and then before I know it I'm at the adoption centre and the piggie's for sale bit...
I'm sure your degus will find a great home...dont beat yourself up xx

i'm normally quite good, but my boyfriend always seems to know what i'm thinking!
we'll go in to get food or toys, and he'll just walk me straight over to the pigs and bunnies... i should probably get him to stop doing it but he's become as piggie mad as me so i guess it's a good thing xx>>>

Were they at P@H preston at ribble - if so I saw them yesterday and I like you were very very tempted to adopt. They were curled up next to each other very very cute!

Blackpool is being re-fitted so no animals so they are all going to Preston so I think all the adoptions from Blackpool have moved over.

Aww don't feel guilty. I too had the same problem a while ago. We kind of fell in love with Degus and decided that we wanted a pair. After much research though, we realised that at the time we couldn't provide the room that they needed. We went to P@H and they had a pair that we really wanted but decided against it. We then went back again the following day and there was only one out of the pair left. This is when the guilt set in as they are meant to live in pairs or groups. After about a week, we decided that we should have him. We went back to P@H but he had gone. I hope that he was bonded with another Degu in a nice home. At the time I was upset but thinking about it now, I am pleased that someone else did take him as we were going to have him through guilt and we probably wouldn't have been able to provide him with a big enough home xx
