Hi, on saturday I will be getting my own 8x6 ft shed! Just for me and my piggies. This will also mean that I will be able to get more guinea pigs!

I do want them to roam free in the shed and I might even one day put another level in. I would love to see some of your pics and advice on flooring and heating for the winter.

Thanks Mary x

that sounds great! -c I wish i could have more piggies than just two and could have a piggie shed but then we don't have much room in the garden for one

ooohhhh lucky you and lucky piggies. I have a play house which houses a pair of rabbits. I have put lino on the floor and sealed it around the edges, my buns are litter trained so don't wee on the floor though:)):))

I like this idea of a shed for you and the piggies. Will you set up a sleeping bag for yourself on the floor, or make a bunk bed? Sorry to joke, as soon as I read your post it made me smile. But how wonderful to be able to have something like this as a lovely home for piggies. I hope you'll let us see pictures in due course, please.

No worries! My poor chap has said I can live in the shed if I want!

It might be quite nice on a warm summers night - almost like camping out!

Thanks guys, just have to sort out some sort of heating for them. Well really there is lots to sort out! But at least I have the shed, managed to get it from gumtree for £100 and its only 9 months old. (8 x 6 )

Feels like I DO live in my piggy shed - always so much cleaning to do :))

When I had piggies free ranging on the shed floor I also used lino which went up the walls slightly and the edges were sealed. The only problem I found with this was that although it was sealed when we removed it to convert to cages the floor underneath was very damp and mouldy (obviously not good for pigs to be sitting on). I know of a few people who have also found this happens. It seems as though the lino sweats and the moisture cant escape. I used one of those heating lamps that are used to hang over baby chicks which was fine. Now the pigs are in cages in the shed I use a dehumidifier with a built in heater.

Your piggies are going to have a fantastic time :)

Not a serious question but a rhetorical one. If you tried to stack as many piggys as you could and still shut the door how many would fit in a 6 X 8 shed?

probably over a hundred i would think

dont flame me i am not going to try it

i'm also having a piggy shed next week :D i will be using lino flooring and insulate it for those cold winter nights and a nice window to let air in du ring summer :) ... we are thinking about putting a gate round it so that they can run free for excercise but will see how that goes haha!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm shed.........what a wonderful idea.........wonder if i could put family in shed and put piggies in house rolleyesx)x)x)x)
now THAT'S an idea :(|)
erm better not.....
love the sound of your shed tho love AWESOME xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I am going to get OH to sort the door out for me, as I would like to have a stable door.
Kids and hubby in shed would be better! And piggies in house!

Ha,I have two piggy sheds connected by a wire aviary between the two with a solid 6mm roof so they can all come out during the day if they want to,the bonus is the rspca guineas that we foster/rehome get the benefit too. Each shed has four levels,i use loft boards as the bases, put some roof felt down too and then sawdust and the likes, each of the sheds is lined with bubblewrap and then 3mm board...the loft boards also make ideal floors for the none litter trained pigs as it doesnt tend to soak in so much,it does stain it though...during the winter both sheds have heating with a plastic screen tacked on the wire aviary to keep the worst of the weather out,it actually keeps the run about 5 degrees warmer inside than outside.

I just enjoy spoiling them all.

Thanks so much for all the info, have you got any pics. I just cant see how you get 4 levels! Tell you what I'm going to come round kibnap you and send you home once youve done my piggy shed!

Hello Mary,

my main shed is 7 x 5 foot,my own herd of nine have the floor with its assorted igloos and sleeping boxes scattered about.

the levels within the shed are against the back 5 foot wall full width,we used some 8 foot by 2 foot loft boards obviously cut down to fit. They are held up with battens taking into account that the shed expands and contracts given the weather/seasons...each level has access to the outside aviary via a trap door and they are 3x2 foot each but can be extended if no one is using the second shed to 7x2 foot.

given that the sides of the shed are 6ft each level is about 18" high which is fine for piggies. each level inside has a sleeping area and a daytime area and they have a solid door for the sleeping area and a wire drop down front for ease of cleaning out...I could if pushed connect each level with inner ladders, tried that several years back but the piggys showed very little interest in climbing.

I do have pictures but you would have to send me your email address as i have no idea how to post piccys on the forum and before anyone jumps in i wouldnt remember if i was told.

So there you have it,the second shed is a 6x4 and is used for storage and overspill from the rspca or holidaying piggies.

Hello,

I've got a 6ft x 4ft shed which houses my five piggies. As you can see they have a bedroom compartment and roam about freely. But, the logistics of cleaning out can make it quite tricky - clambering down to the floor everytime.

I'm about to order this triple stacker hutch which will fit in the shed so I can get more pigs. My lot will have the 6ft x 4ft floor area, plus the ground floor 4ft x 2ft hutch (I'm going to raise it up a few inches so that they don't lose the floor space underneath) and viola! Obviously the bedroom compartment that they use now, and that you can see Fuzzypeg coming out of, will be made redundant! I'll use it in an outdoor grass run or something.

At the moment, I have to step right to the back of the shed everynight when I put hay in their bedroom, but with the triple stacker being side on, I will just be able to bob down in the doorway and pop the hay in.

I will do!

I'm telling myself that my reason for getting the stackable hutch is because it will make cleaning out and access a lot easier, but my naughty secret reson is becuase I want a few more piggies!

try either getting some old rolls of wallpaper or newspapers, put that down before their shavings and then it all rolls up nicely into the bin.

I do put layers of newspaper down before the megazorb, but it's still a bit troublesome. I think it's because it's such a large floor area. The newspaper sort of collapses on me as it's not one big sheet rolleyes
