on Monday I'm getting another piggie (see petting zoo thread ) - i saw her in the main mixed pen!pow-pow I wanted to rescue her because I dont think she's getting the best possible life I'm not sure how old she is but shes not fully grown . My mum called the place and they had said they were gonna keep her (no doubt for breedingpow-pow )she is a black crested with a tiny stripe of orange in her crest -- any name ideas ?
thank you
x

You must be so happy! And so will your little "Red Riding Hood", once she finds ut what a loving home is... No big bad wolves any longer for her!

How about punk, amber, tigerlily, opal, jett, chilli?

How about Amber, Minx, Topaz, Bee, Marigold, Mari, Queeney (On the bee theme), Faith (she had the faith in her old owners, now she's found a lovely new family to have faith in!), Hope (you're all she hoped for!) or Grace?

Hope I helped!

What kind of name are you looking for? Something to suit her colours? A floral name? Traditional/classic? Gemstones? Food?

I find if you have an idea of the type of name you want, others can come up with more ideas. :)

I'm not quite sure ...maybe something to suit her colours or something sweet
thanks for all these great suggestions I particualey like Grace and Clementine but there all FABULOUS! thank you everyone ! :))

have we a pigture of her? ...............oops i have to go to other thread :red

I had heaps of help from Niki naming my girls xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
she directed me to sites for naming piggies and their meanings it was amazing........it really really helped me, i wanted to include my boys names and then my mum's name xxxxxx

The description of her sounds alot like one of my first every piggies who was called Clemantine, or 'Clem' for short - so I think she should be called Clem!

Can't wait for pics...

if i was you i'd wait until you get your pig before you choose a name
you might find that if you pick one now it doesn't suit your pig's character/personality or even how they look to you once you own them.

Have a shortlist ready, but wait until you have her. I did that with all my piggies. Sometimes, my favourite just didn't work out!

Definitely true Wiebke! I had a shortlist for all my lot and out of 10, only one suited a name that I really loved before I got her (that was Delilah).

Of the names suggested so far, I associate Amber, Topaz and Tigerlily with orange and black. Will think up some more ideas along those lines!

I have names for my pets before I get them, but they never have them, they never stick! apart from Pheobe, I told my OH it was one of my fave names and i'd like to call my first guinea pig it, he was like ooookayyy rolleyesrolleyesrolleyes! but when i first saw her twinkley eyes (that was the only bit i could see!), i said to andy, "thats pheobe!" and it stuck! it really suits her! when she came out of her hidey hole she was the most adorable little thing, a golden agouti abby, my love of my life! then the found ruby amonst the hay and they picked her up whilst she was sleeping, then she yawned and went back to sleep and *bing* went my heart strings again! (dunno why i told you that story!

The only name that ever stuck was Llewelyn - he got it at Hopperhaven, as we was rescued in Wales. It suited him, my hubby liked it, so Llewi he stayed.

Dizzy was three years old Daisy when she joined, but she had far too much personality for a demure little lawn flower and was too busy settling in record time.

Looking forward to welcomig your new girl - not long now!

because its always sweet to hear piggy stories xxxxxx

please can someone help iv got her and was giving her a little check over in the car i realised she has a flaky bald white foot i cant get a good enough picture it looks a bit like a chikens foot.

I've posted on your medical thread. A photo would help - even if it's not the best quality it might give us an idea of the swelling you mentioned. As said before, the flaky skin could well be fungal, this can be treated with certain lotions/creams.

I'v just been to the vet and he said it is probably ringworm so we'v been given some, I think its iodene my mum has the bottle hope it works :0

Does he have any other patches of sore/flaky skin?

Povidone Iodine is useful in many situations, diluted 1:10 it can be used as a shampoo (mixed with regular shampoo) or made up as a solution to just cleanse affected areas (i.e. feet).

no, it seems to just be one fore paw and one back paw(both on same side) the vet said to massage in the iodine undiluted into every paw for 1 minute each paw thanks for all the info
:)

Make sure she doesn't come into contact with other guinea pigs, and that you wear gloves when you handle her and anthing of hers!

Poor you, and poor lady - not the start you've been dreaming of!

I was thinking she might have some health issues coming from where she came from .she is extremely cute and soft ! i will take some pigtures when she's better. they said she was 3 months . i think ill call her Amber not sure yet though . :)

Let the name issue settle over the first week - by then end, you'll know what she is! (though Amber is a lovely name!)

Just be aware that ringworm is one of the few things that can be transferred from guinea pigs to humans and is highly contagious... That why all the fuss about separation, gloves and servicing her last, so nothing can come from her to everyone else.

I am glad that she is such a lovely character, and I'm sure she'll have the best of homes and tlc! Give her as much time and space to settle as you can under the circumstances.

That's a fine name for a sweet girl!

I am so glad that the poor girl is better!
