He's never looked after pepper or fed him, I have told him about amounts of food I come home from work his friend told him what to give pepper and it really was way too much veg he's eaten a hole carrot already grrr why can't ppl listen to me I have said he's got a specific diet, I look after my guinea pig to the rule book to insure his health and wealth fare is being met ,I will worry about him my hole holiday now wish I could take him with me but I can't x

Leave a strict set of guidelines; when we went away just for one night, we prepared the veggies and put them in Tupperware in the fridge. I know you can't do that all the way to Friday as they'll go off, but if you prepare a couple of days, then at least he can see better what kind of amount they need.

Aww, i feel so sorry for you, i’m going away to college on monday for two weeks, but luckily, my boyfriends always been involved in the veggies and feeding so he knows what to give, although he tends to give them too much anyways! My only worry is making he sure he changes bottle and fills up hay racks, as it’s something i’ve always kept on top on because he never notices if they need filling haha, i’m worried enough as it is at that!

Hope your husband gets to grips with guinea pigs!

My local rescue does pet boarding, but i have to be careful as one of my boys has a bad allergy to sawdust which i find most boarding places use, and it just makes him so snuffly he can’t go near the stuff! I am lucky to have family that would happily look after my piggies, and know how to because it’s all i ever talk about haha.

Sounds silly but maybe drawing a chart would help, just like a tick list for each day so you he can tick off what he’s done to remind him ? for example, change water, fill hay, feed veg etc. You could write in the box what he needs to feed for the veg too so, it could say veg then for example, 3 slices of carrot, 2 slices of cucumber (diced) blah blah blah, then he has no excuse!

I will tell my mr to do it properly or it's the last thing he will do lol joking I love my pets with all my heart and regard them as family no matter how small they are they bring me soo much joy and to be cared for properly isn't much to ask ^)

Aw, he needs training ;)
I'd write everything down bullet pointed in Leyman's terms (sorry guys :x) Luckily, my OH is great with our 23 piggies but I still have a nasty habit of discreetly checking things after he's done his piggy duties :(|) Call it a woman's intuition ;)

I find lists are the only way things get done in my house haha, i know how you feel though, it’s difficult to go away from your babies i think i’ll miss the pigs more than my OH when i go away, but it’s always a lovely feeling when you come back to them! Have a nice time away! :)

Definitely lists as well as regular reminders when to refill pellets, hay and water!

I leave the first meals already cut up in icecream boxes in the fridge (labelled of cousre!), but if I'm longer than a weekend, I write down what and how much veg for each meal.

Oh dear! Hopefully he's learnt from this little incident to be more careful at listening to you.

I'm going away for 5 night's in December (very carefully timed so no-one else has to attempt the rather complex big clean) and I have every intention of drawing up a (probably laminated) list of instructions for my parents and potentially a chart as well as they're both quite forgetful so might lose track of what veggies were given when!

Good luck, hope you manage to relax at least a little while you're away :)

Would just like to thank everybody for advise its much appreciated and its good to know you all understand why I'm worried haha

Last time I was away for two days came back and my duo had no water or hay.My twelve year old was looking after them with hubby keeping an eye out. They both got rollocled.Next tume will fill cages with hay and 2 water bottles for each cage.My dog looks like a budha as well cos hubby over feeds him.Wouldn't like to leave them any longer

Aww that's annoying,if only ppl listened properly its not hard at all x

Wouldn't be a problem in our house, I'm the main feeder and the missus feeds them when I'm on early shift or away on courses, so there are 2 competent 'oomans in our house, and yes, I'm a man! and I understand bullet points as I have an ECDL qualification! :p
