I had a chat with the lovely lady who runs cavy haven yesterday and arranged to go and see her and her manymany piggies towards the end of the month to *hopefully* see if any might be up to the task of living with us!

I can see on the guinea pig rehome website that she has oodles of gorgeous guineas in but I'd like to have a chance to meet a few and take her advice on who she thinks would get the most from living in our home rather than just go for *swoon* factor (mostly because if I was using that as a guage I'd be looking to rehome about 4,976 guinea pigs!).

Can't wait! It gives me a few weeks to get everything here completely set up - well, more set up... I'm sure I can find more things for piggies to sit on, hide in and snuggle up inside...!

Yours, hoping that March only has 2 more days in it ;)

Is it nearly the end of March yet, is it, is it, is it??

(Mommmm, are we nearly there yet?):))

i'm sorry to say you've got a bit longer to wait :( but the time will come & you will become a slave like the rest of us :)p which is not a bad thing wont be without any of my 5 boys they have me well trained :p

Never fear dear, time is such a fleeting thing, the time will fly by and home will come some piggies to make your life whole .

So is it nearly time to go visit yet? ;):))

*checks watch impatiently* not quite... but soon, right?

I am sooo going to drive my family nuts in March! :{

right, I should go and a) attend to children
b) strip and clean beds whilst weather is dry
c) google piggie pics

(not necessarily in that order.!)
;)

Right, I'm not a patient person by nature but I've waited long enough for this post to get all the way down to page 10! AAAAND I haven't promised to take every piggie from the rescue thread in the meantime! (Ooo the temptation though!) But -the end of March is almost with us and I have cage and everything to go in it, food sorted, bedding sorted everything I need to get started (but certainly nothing like what I'll have in a year - cozies, you say, C&C you say? ;) )

SO - only this weekend to get over and it's a visit to cavy haven and her 100+ rescues piggies to see if any of them 'suit'. I'm not going with a list of looks or gender or age that I'd prefer - just an open eye to see if I 'click' with any of her rescues. Does that make me sound like an awful old hippie? I've got other animals and some are just more connected to us people than others... there I go again - crazy hippie moment :p!

But there we are... the end of the month is nigh and I've only got today and tomorrow until it's in the car and awaaaaay!

Woop!

how have you managed to wait sooooooooo long? I think I would have been ringing her every day to say 'can I come round now? Can I? Can I?' LOL!

I am terrible, we arranged to take a preggie pig from Becklen after she had had her babies and by the time she was ready to collect we had booked 5! Now we have 9 altogether and have just become foster carers! Guinea pigs are so addictive!

Like Jack Bauer with a slightly less dangerous 24 hours, but 24 hours nonetheless!

I've seen Laurel and Hardy on the rehoming thread...x)... I'm trying very hard not to go with any plans of who I'd like to take home but there are a few on the thread who've caught my eye if I'm honest, but I'm not necessarily expecting to like them - I'm just hoping I manage to come away with just the 2 or 3 I have planned not a whole herd@)

Mommmmmmmmm, are we they yet?

(nearly!)

You are having a laugh aren't you! You will find them in your bag, up your jumper, down a sleeve, and when you get home, surrounded by several dozens pigs you will simply look all innocent and say ....'oooh I wonder how that happened, I only put 2 in the box'

Trust me.... I am speaking from experience. How do you think I went from saying I'll have three please, to having 6 out there. Or .... I'll have just 3 chickens, and now I have 16 .... and so on and so on! rolleyes:))

I can fully understand your excitement! The last few days and hours of wait are always the worst!

Try not come home with too many... On the other hand, meeting the cavies is pigson means that your are often ending up with completely different piggies than if you just went for the pictures. Some wonderful personalities just don't come over in a single picture taken on arrival!

Best of luck with your choice; I'm sure that it won't be easy! I really wish that she was near enough for me to see her legendary hordes, so I am QUITE envious of you!

On the other hand - I doubt that my hubby would let me get anywhere near her! malletheadmalletheadmallethead

Snap - there are now photos of me at all the rescues stating 'if you see this woman ... turn her away' and parental controls on the rescue and rehoming threads ... all courtesy of my husband!

That's exactly why I'm trying not to go with any preconceptions of who'd suit.. Can't wait to meet them all there though and if I go with just the knowledge of how many I think I can sanely give a good home to (time+cost+additional possible cost of dvorce and second home = number of piggies!) and just see what piggies I meet.

V excited..:(|)

PS. Redfrock - your post reminded me of a sign I see up on one of the fellow traders stands at re-enactment fairs which says 'I already phoned your wife about it and she said 'buy it' ' :p

Aaaawww have a great day, quite sad you didn't come here, I don't have quite as many (underdstatement if the milenium) but you could have collected your pet carriers lol

Seriously I am just jealous. Have a great day and hope you come home with exactly who you want and we look forward to seeing pics x

Now remember, your husband says the maximum is 10!:)):))
seriously, i hope the right piggies chose you today. have fun and enjoy all the piggy cuddles

No idea if I've linked the right thing here... technology and I are barely on speaking terms these days:o

Buut - these ladies came home with me from CavyHaven on Monday and are doing that thing where you'd half swear you had no piggies until you come down in the morning and find their entire cage looks like it's been burgled!:))

I'm loving watching them at the moment (mostly as they hide and wait for me to go away!:p ) but, having been at the rescue since they were born 18ish months ago it's going to take them a while to get used to inside living, never mind the noises of a normal family home so I'm making sure they get plenty of time to absorb all the changes.

I've changed their names, and you'll have to excuse if I muddle my breeds, but I've never been too hot on breeds and stuff, so.. the Peruvian (ginge/cream and white wiggy looking lady) is called Noodle, the PEW is called Pickly Quing and the BEW (sheltie?) is yet to have an official name, but is being called chunk at the mo due to being th ebiggest of the bunch. They're all very petite ladies - esp Noodle - under all that wigginess she's a slip of a pig!

I do have grand plans of getting at least another 2 ladies and a neutered boy to either keep them all in line or just be harrassed by his herd of nagging furballs..;) but time will show how these come on and whether they're confident ladies who I think would benefit from having more friend or whether they're perfectly happy as they are (if it ain't broke, don't fix it and all that!)

So far though - even though I'm deliberately keeping it very softly softly for now I'm really loving getting to know these girls...and I think the clever money would be very much on them not being the only piggies that end up sharing the chaos I call home :)

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes and advice, once I figure out the whole pic malarky I'll see if I can post some pics of them in their new home x)

Thanks again, from me and the ladies

I can't believe I've missed this thread, but would just like to say how lovely it is. Such good news, I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute of being a piggymama.

Aw! If it were me, I would end up adopting all the little pigsters! =]

Ok, I'm about 10 days into the glamourous world of piggie ownership and so far I've been nipped several times, bitten (on the inner thigh of all places!) once, weed on, scratched and generally been ignored by their royal piggly highnesses and I have to say I'm loving it!

I'm thrilled how quickly they're showing signs of being muuuuch more relaxed, 2 will settle for a cuddle, 1 just wants to find a way off (or through - hence the bite!) but I'm sure that's partly down to not being used to being handled much.

Aaaaand *newsflash* I've had countless rats over the 12 years of my marriage and hub has always loved the rats and been as likely to get them out of their cages for playtime as me.... he said yesterday that he thinks he prefers GPs :o. And please, nobody take offence, but the reason is -and I quote - 'their funny little faces'. He did mean it affectionately though - promise!

So, having done all the looking about and researching that the internet offers before getting these little furries, the reality is waaay better. I can't believe what little personalities they are!

Thankyou again forum posters who's words convinced me this was a good choice....:rose
