Recently I asked about what was best to give an oldie who was naturally not holding her weight quite as well due to her age, but wasn't worryingly under weight, she'd just lost that podgy look. I didn't want to go the oats route, as she doesn't like them (tried them with another oldie in the past, all turned their nose up), so I decided to try and source more nutriental feeds, so bought some redi-grass and the fibafirst. I've also upped the timothy hay and give a mixture of the two along with standard hay.
I've also started sprinkling probiotics in their feed to help her aid digestion. We're on day 7 and there are obvious improvements already, she's lost that slight hollow look, and is regaining the tone on her back, she looks like a youngster again, may it continue :)

Fantastic news :D my Peppa thinks oats are purely for pooping in! But the readigrass goes down a treat and fattens them up :D

I am so glad I came across this thread.

My Eliza is an oldie (6.5 years old) and is considerably thinner than her friends :( It has finally hit me that she is elderly and although she is still happy and eating everything put in front of her, it is starting to show :(

Thankfully she likes oats sprinkled on the dry food but I think I will follow your tips too x

Readigrass is great as it has lots of calories in, Rosie used to love it. She also used to love oats/bran in warm pellet mash, I offered Edward some dry oats in a bowl the other day for him to try- not even interested. The two girls I offered, were actually like hoovers and sucked them up- could only let Ruby have a tiny bit though.
Fibafirst is a no-go with the girls, Edward gets excited when i crumble one over his dry food but really he doesn't eat it!

Interesting thread - thanks for posting :)
