Hi there, my name is Emma and I have four rabbits, Duncan, Frank, Penny Pocket and Sally but I have recently got a new editio. A guinea piggie called Nigel. He is 10 weeks and was from the adoption centre in Hull all on his own.

What is the best way of getting him a friend and bonding. He is indoors and get lots of attention. Do I get a boy or a girl and how do I go about bonding? I've done bunnies before but not guinea pigs?

Any advice appreciated!

Hiya Emma and welcome to the forum.

Good for you wanting a friend. The options for you are:

Get another baby boy but risk a fall out when they both hit hormonal stage (about 4 months)

Take him to a rescue to pick a friend - an older boar who is already past the hormonal stage

Wait until he's older - get him neutered and pair him with a girl of any age.

Post some photos of him as we love all guineas round here!

Hi Emma, welcome :)

I agree with Lisa about your options. If I were you, I would see whether any of the local rescues have an older boar to bond him with. They may let you take him to the shelter to let him pick his own friend!

Hope that you find the forum helpful, there are lots of topics on bonding piggies along with loads of pictures of everyones piggies! :(|)

xx

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I will probably get him de-plummed in the new Year and then take him to our local resuce and see if he fancies any girlie guinea piggies - I'm sure he will!

Does the girl have to be spayed for health reasons as it is for bunnies i.e. uterine cancer?

Here is Nigel in his own showcase video - hope it works. However he does seem to appear to look green in our lighting?! I can assure you in real life he is a gorgous tanny, ginger colour! He has already learnt his squeeks when he hears the hay bag rustling!

He's so cute and I love your bunnies too. I have one rabbit named Billie who is 3 years old. :) And 2 pigs named Chipychanga and Ping.

Welcome to the forum!

Lynn

He's gorgeous x) Love the bit where he's enjoying his chin scratch :)

Female piggies don't have to be spayed like does do :)

Whowx) I got a fright I thought you had a green piggy , glad I played the vid mallethead.

Sows should not be speyed , the mortality rate makes it an absolute no no unless there are medical problems .

A lot of rescues will let you take your boar in and try him with various boars to try and get a good mach , it don’t always work , as all pigs are different , but you have a better chance of a good bonding that way
