Hi! I'm Otorongo! I just got my 1st piggie on Sunday. She is still a baby, her name is Piglet. I'm just worried that she may be pregnant. I have no way of knowing how old she is since the people at the place I got her from didn't know. All that I know is that she's too small to be full grown. Anyway, I'm very afraid that she's pregnant. She's kinda chubby around her abdomen, kinda an eggplant shape. I don't feel any movement in her stomach, which is common around 4-5 weeks gestation, right? I attached some pics of her. Hopefully it'll help.

Thanks so much for your help,

Kayla/Otorongo

Hello and welcome.

I sincerely hope your little pig is not pregnant, however if she is then there will be plenty of advice and support via the forum.

One word of caution, please do not hold a guinea pig in the way you were in the photo of her belly. Suspending a pig with no support for their back end can cause spinal damage as their body is not designed to bear the full body weight in a vertical position.

Please weigh her weekly - her weight now could give an estimate of her age and the increase week on week may indicate pregnancy.

This link has been compiled for owners finding themselves with a surprise pregnancy it contains lots of good info on diet, etc so please read thoroughly. Should she prove to be pregnant and you have any concerns please feel free to ask as many questions as you like - though most will be covered in the link.

If you could get some slightly different pictures for us, that would help. We need her to be stood on a flat surface *like the floor* With no humans touching or affecting her shape, and take the photo from above if you can :)

This will help identify the shape better!

Where exactly did she come from, and did they give any other information?

Hi Kayla! Welcome to the forum!

Sadly, there is no other totally safe way to tell whether a girl is pregnant than sitting it out; how big a sows gets depends partially on the size of a litter - some sows with only one pup hardly show and others can get huge. If you are seeing bulges, you are already in the second half of a pregnancy. Some girls are naturally pear shaped, though.

Please lift your girl up in some kind of conveyance Like a tunnel, a cosy or a walk-in box, so there is no pressure on her belly at any time.

We would be grateful if you read carefully through the link that Suzy has provided you with; it should answer most of your questions, but feel free to ask any questions you have in our pregnancy section; please keep everything to one thread there, so we can check up on your story and the information so far given - it makes our job much easier and you will get more specific answers!

Always treat a piggy with an unknown background as pregnant unless you know otherwise. :{
